Probably going to make a tit of myself but there were two of these in my garden today. Very beautiful in the crisp snow.

I don't recall seeing one of these before, any ideas what they are and if they are a common sighting in these parts?View attachment 5212 View attachment 5213
I've had those feeding in my garden as well since the snow arrived. Big and fluffed up, and probably also a lot fatter after all the goodies they have been dining on these past few days.

I've had a couple of little thin black and white birds feeding on the patio since the bad weather as well. The one is very brave and comes up onto the patio step looking through the window when the food has got covered with new snow. Can't identify them from any of the websites. Will try to get a photo next time I see them to get an idea what they are (although got a crap camera on this phone..)

The birds you can see in some parts of stafford, look a lot nicer than the human kind :heyhey::heyhey:

On a serious note, we can get lucky around here.

I saw him waiting for a train.

Ah, That's where he's been , not seen him all afternoon!

Interesting watching what he's doing with his leg in that clip, my little friend has been carefully nibbling away at the snow on his legs .

As well as Fieldfares, keep an eye out for Redwings -

- seen a lot of them today.

Also seen today a Pigeon (of the mongrel variety) that didn't make it - stiff as a board. Must've been a tough week. Pigeon's loss is the Magpie's gain.

It was just amusing - he had exactly the mannerisms that the paying passengers have there, standing on the edge, looking for the headlight of the approaching train - he just needed a little suitcase.

Glasóg Shráide is the old name over there, referring to their tendency to walk up and down on the quieter roads.

I note that a good run of hedge along Marston Lane has been netted - to prevent nesting prior to it be ripped out, usually.

Housing*, more likely, I think, just on the way in from Beaconside.

* Or de-housing, if you're a bird.
Yep today that looks like a daft suggestion!and as such it joins the host of other coo-coo suggestions I have come up with, over the years! ;)

California is not the only State that has within its Constitutional foundations a commitment to ban weirs on the Thames and Medway, and those throughout England for that matter.

Many State Constitutions are a cut 'n' paste job from the Magna Carta.

Most States don't need any further instruction from us how to kill their own citizens, they are becoming more adept at the practice with each passing year.

Hi, new here.

Sadly one of the peregrines has flown into the county council building and killed itself :(. I can plainly hear a falcon calling out there though.

Does anyone know if it might have a chick that needs help at this time of year, or whether it will be it's mate?

I shouldn't imagine the chances of it pairing up with another bird round here are very high :(

Yes, I've known some game birds in my time but not necessarily the feathered sort.
