Parent Child Parking

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Personally I think there shouldn't be special spaces for parent and child but that all spaces should be made at least 12" wider than they are now.

And all car parks should be re-lined to about 60° angled parking instead of 90° as they are now.

I'm OK with 90 degree spaces, but it should be compulsory to reverse in, allowing narrower inter-space access lanes.

Angled spaces are available for those who prefer them - e.g., behind Lidl.

Pfft! Not a chance!! Reverse? You've got to be kidding me!!

Only time I can reverse is to do a curb mounting 5 point turn when cross and lost!
As long as I'm ot expected to parralel park, I'm fine.

We went aldi/lidle in Cannock a few weeks back and the carpark was quite busy. A couple robbed the spot I was waiting to get in, which was parent and child. I was Annoyed at the pure rudeness of cutting me up and even more annoyed the fact the didn't have kids . Another women with kids approached me and commented on how mad it made her just watching.
In the shoo I witnessed the women confront the childless couple as the were walking around the shop. The couple went crazy swearing at this poor mother and child. Claiming they need the parent an child space because she couldn't walk far because she had a broken leg!?!......there was no cast or anything on her leg , she was walking perfecting fine. The couple then carried on round the shop ,the woman now limping patheticaly, shouting their mouths off as headed towards checkouts

Parallel parking is a doddle. I live in a terraced street. Reversing into a parking space, done it 3 times ever. 1 was on a driving lesson, 1 was on my test.

This is a bug bear of mine, the consensus with many older people is 'we didn't have it our day and managed perfectly well so why shouldn't I use the space'

I parked at Sainsbury's once when my oldest was tiny, there were no parent and child spaces available and the car park was quite busy, I ended up parking in a normal space across the bridge where there was an empty space next to me and I could lug the car seat out. When I returned there was a car next to me so close a skinny adult couldn't squeeze through let alone get my baby back in and the other side was no better. I had a pick up as well so couldn't even get her in through the boot.

I remember it being a particularly bad day and I was just stood by the car in tears with no idea what to do, I even contemplated breaking the back window. I must have been stood there for an hour waiting for the car owners from either side to return so I could get my baby home, eventually I saw someone I sort of knew (though definitely not someone I knew well enough that I'd entrust with my child in any other circumstance) who took charge of the baby while I pulled the car out far enough to get the doors open.

Worst thong about all of this is the supermarkets carparks aren't 'managed by them ' so they cannot do anything about it. In Tesco defence they said that you are able to use the disabled bay, but this is something that me and the OH frown upon as a disabled person may need that spot and we would hate to have the frowns cast upon us of being able bodied and not disabled

Special angled spaces are available behind Lidl for training purposes.

@Gramaisc Are you on Lidl's payroll?

A few years ago, I needed to urgently get to town & for some reason couldn't drive....my Dad offered to give me a lift & wait for me.

Dad drove us to Sainsburys where be pulled straight into a Parent & Child parking space...

"Dad! You can't park here, its a Parent & Child space" I say.

"Why not"? he says, "I'm your parent, you're my child"!

Me - "Dad, I'm 40"!

I would have put you closer to 30

Angled parking is more efficient - around 70% was mentioned on a recent Radio5Live item, I believe. The only 'drawback' is that (to presumably to get this level of efficiency) the approaches to the spaces must be "one-way".
