Does it have to be from that list mate.... I would personally recommend an Android phone but not the X10.

Depending on personal preference, I would recommend the HTC Desire or HTC Desire HD personally.

Have heard bad things about Win 7 phones, in a year they *should* be good but now they are too new and need lots of improvements. So wouldn't got for the HD7 although it does look nice.

Nokie N8 gets good reviews everywhere for the hardward but EVERY review tht I have read slates the outdated Symbian OS.

Not used the BB Torch so can't comment.

iPhone is good but the geek in me would find it restrictive. That might not be a problem for you if you are semi technophobe as they do "just work"... but for me Android is better and cheaper.

The question is what type of user are you? Some phones are better for doing certain things than others. BB still the fav for business email. Others like iPhone and androidtend to use for social networking. I have a 16 month old HTC hd ideal for email, contacts and some small apps I need to use, I guess I will go for Microsoft mobile 7 phone HTC. I may ditch it and just buy a phone for calls that would be something different!

No, they are just the phones i have been told are worth having.
And basically i want a phone for a bit of everything.... if that makes sense. I would keep my current phone (Tocco Light), but had it 2 years now, couldn't be bothered with an upgrade last year so just got my line rental reduced etc.... But having 5 months guessing what a text says because of a cracked screen is enough for anyone.

My contract (orange) is up on the 25th of the month.

Pretty much decided on the HTC Desire HD, any advances on that?

iPhone is mighty tempting but unbelievably expensive.

Don't think you can beat the Desire HD at the moment Shoes.... at first I thought it was too big but I held my Hero up against it a week back and its not too much bigger to be honest.

My contract is up early May 2011 so just under 5 months to go... cannot wait - love my Hero but just need something a bit faster... would be happy with a Desire or a HD but by May should have dual core phones out.....

Oh forgot an honourable mention for the Galaxy S... supposed to be pretty damn good...

i love my HTC Desire but i have to admit, i'm not a big fan of HTC Sense.. don't get me wrong, i like the actual product, but i just think it goes against the whole "open" ethos of google/chromium/android to put a vendor-specific layer on the top.. this means when a new version of android is released, you're stuck with your current one until HTC decide to update it with Sense on top.. my gf's Hero is stuck at 2.1, for example, as HTC have said they aren't going to update it beyond that..

sure, you can probably root your phone and dick about with custom ROMs, but the vast majority of users just want to buy a phone and have it work out of the box, and have the ability to keep itself up to date with the latest software.. so far, the Desire has been pretty good at doing just that, but Sense is a stumbling block in that regard..

so, to that end, i am pretty excited about the samsung nexus s:

Official Google Blog said:
Nexus S is the lead device for the Gingerbread/Android 2.3 release; it’s the first Android device to ship with the new version of the Android platform. We co-developed this product with Samsung—ensuring tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform. As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus S delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.
i take that to mean "we're pissed off that android should be more successful than it is cos manufacturers keeping dicking with our platform and adding their own shit, so we're going to work with one who's willing to put a vanilla android ROM in a decent handset".. if that's the case, i'm blates getting one!

Agreed, spesh as I'm also stuck on 2.1. In fact I just this second complained about it in another thread!

I totally agree about the hero, I love mine to bits and it seems to be physically indestructible too. I too wish it was a little faster, but it's not that bad.

Looking forward to the desire HD coming though.

I'm off to have a look at this samsung db linked to.

I know what you mean DB, Sense is quite nice but it does piss you off that you have to wait for HTC to update the Android even when Google released it months ago.

I would highly recommend rooting and custom roms for that very reason. My Hero is 2.2 and I don't know how I ever coped before... again though I agree that most people don't want to do that.

As for the Nexus:

Good = NFC (Near Field Communications) - having this in a phone really could be the beginning of the end for coins and even money full stop. Very excited about the possibilities with this.

Not so good = no micro SD card.... WTF? Although it does come as 16GB so not as bad as I first thought.

No micro SD seemed odd to me too, I want to choose what I put in there. As said though 16Gb is generous to start with, so not too bad.

I know a couple of people who have just got Samsung Galaxy S phones. They seem very happy with them. Look very snazzy too. Not sure what the contracts are like for it though. Would recommend having a look at it.

Same for me... I am four months from an upgrade though so hoping duel core phones show (at a reasonable price) before my upgrade....

Only problem is the wife is then 4 months after me so then i'll be jealous again....

Just got my Desire HD. Whoosh! Blown away by it. Not really had too much chance to play yet but it's really fast and responsive and finally htc have put a decent camera on a phone!! Will play more tomorrow, I think I need to calibrate some hardware too as I tried to do a dyno run for my car using adyno and it told me my 1.6 focus had 180 bhp. sadly not.
