I saw they had lots of house adverts in Polish in there window on Greyfriars (well I assume they are adverts for houses I don't speak Polish) . I'm not sure how I feel about that. At the risk of sounding like a member of the BNP (which I'm not!) Is it right that immigrants can just come in and take a property from social housing when the waiting list for the indigenous population is very long? I know of two families who are in social housing and are severely overcrowded, but have no chance of a bigger house, yet I also have a slovakian friend who with her one daughter managed to secure a 2 bedroomed maisonette for a ridiculously cheap rent.

Doesn't sound right to me.

I think you will find the Polish community in Stafford has been here since the war. They have certainly supported the town. I beleieve the club is a result of their fund raising activities.

My own grandparents were Russian, my father was French. Yes I get very angry with comments like this and so do lots of others.

Yes you do sound like an apologist for the BNP. Check your own surname and the chance is that somewhere you were an immigrant in to England.

An earlier post of mine is vaguely related to this subject..

I must go and look at these adverts - I once saw a Polish advert in West Brom - but in Stafford, with its 65 years of continuous Polish residence, I have never seen as much as a single Polish word outside of the White Eagle, Sweet Polish Dream or the European Mini-Market..

I look forward to seeing this event advertised, in Polish, in the Newsletter.

The BNP candidate for Cannock Chase in the recent General Election was Terry Majorowicz.

Hear hear!

Look at how many of 'the few', to whom so much is owed, were Poles.

..and very few Poles in the GPO ninety four years ago..

Mind you, come to think of it, what about Constance Markevicz?.

I hope you are not put off from posting such questions from the answers posted in response.

Whatever views you may have on recent immigration, i hope you understand from above replies that the Polish folk of Stafford have been here for longer than i have and duly deserve recognition as an integral part of what Stafford is.

I may not agree blah blah, but will defend the right blah blah.

They do that you see.

Craving for advertising revenue sadly means many ' look what you missed last week' kinda articles.

Perhaps poorly stated, but my original post was trying to say this. People who have lived here a long time (whatever their origins) should have priority in regards to allocation of social housing than people who have just arrived here (whatever their origins).

I did find the replies a bit harsh Withnail, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

the longtime residents did have a celebratory day in the pagaent, yet they may have become too sophisticated to enjoy such an event. Well who can blame em? what with tesco, asda, b&q, the monkey forest, saturday kitchen, film4, txting, flymos, internet, golf, pie&ale, spoons, afternoon naps...... etc.. etc ........

What on earth is Stafford Rural Homes doing organising (and presumably funding) a Polish History day?

I thought there job was to provide the people of Stafford with quality, affordable housing not to push Labour's PC nonsense!

It is a shame that I did not see this post earlier as I would have been interested in going along.

You are absolutely right it is not right that recent immigrants to this country are given precedence over people who have been here longer!

It is also wrong that immigrants are being sent to Stafford just because we do not have our 'quota'!
