Old Croft road is pretty narrow in places and gets busy with school traffic

I guess the developers are playing the affordable housing angle to get it approved

Affordable meaning hardly any garden, no driveway, shared parking and just small in general. Plus it means a chance of a less decent family who will let their unruly kids walk the streets causing trouble. There's enough of them walking around this area as it is, spraying their graffiti tags everywhere. I was walking one my my dogs and some (probably stoned) girl of about 15 jumped in front of me and pretended to be a dog barking at mine.

Affordable housing ? Yeah that's £250k + minimum....do you think the people youre ranting about could possibly, ever, in their lives afford that? Or do you think that those people are a different type of scum.....dont you think they bring their own class of crime, yeah they can afford better drugs...but they're still selling them to everyone, callers at the door 24/7, the smell of weed constantly...no, its just higher priced drugs.....yes the parents can afford luxury holidays, but leave unsupervised teens at home to have riotous party's and cause trouble throughout the neighbourhood.....yes they can afford fast cars....for their irresponsible kids, cos daddy will get them off a charge or fine......... they just commit high level of crimes like fraud and embezzlement, along with drug deals and aggressive behaviour, as they’re above the law......but that's ok as long as we're keeping up with the Jones's.

Social class has nothing to do with it.

It's no wonder social mobility is such an issue in this country.
I honestly don't think there is much social mobility anymore...

People are trapped, myself and the carer are trapped, no escape for us......

Fortunatly my (2 older) kids are doing better than us....but in a world where people claiming benefits can have greater income than working people, there's not much hope.....my kids are tied into mortgages untill they're 70+ with mortgages that are many times the 3 x salary it used to be.......how mobiley social are they after all.

The main problem with today's society is that they measure wealth by status symbols and house size. People will be much happier when they realise that wealth and happiness are much more aligned with family and contentment. Being happy with what you have and your families health is far more important than material gain. Something I have only learnt as I have got older. I have a fantastic wife and children (and 3 cats 😊) and would love a bigger house but if it's meant to be it will happen. Life's to short to miss things you don't have meaning you forget all the great things you already have. 👍

Build on the Chase

It’s only wasteland

And make the A34 one way

Slab over the canal and make that a road

Put the toll booths in at The Trumpet

And control it all from the Chinese Communist Party police station on Beaconside

Job done

Not sure why there's so much building in Stafford anyway as the town's on its arse.

Targets from central government.

Farming land should be protected from development, we import a lot of food as it is. With golf courses, horse grazing and development taking up former farming land we're setting ourselves up for a big problem in the future.

I agree that farmland should be kept. But I've never known a farmer that doesn't plead poverty. Farmers work exceptionally hard but supermarkets keep screwing them down in price and making it unaffordable. Most farmers voted to leave for Brexit vote and now they are complaining about the result. I believe that Brexit in the long term will be good as it should reduce the power of the supermarkets and see the rise of local small businesses (fish mongers, butchers, greengrocers etc) who will all support local farmers without over pricing under the heading of 'artisan' or 'organic' produce. The main problem with the future is not here and now it's not import issues due to being out of the EU it's all about environmental changes that will affect the lives of our grandchildren and their children. But as long as we can all have the house that we want I'm sure it'll all be fine?

It wasn't a dig at you at all.

My sister runs a social mobility charity based in London and Manchester; it's just a shame that so many people look down on others based on their living circumstances. Anyone can do anything, until they are continually told they can't.

The answer isn’t necessarily an obvious one

People
Want
To
Live
On
Their
Own

A
Lot
More

Less couples means more homes
🤣 It's a hard knock life.
Some single people must be on some mahoosive salaries to afford a house on their own at only 3 times their annual salary.
Still not sure what the huge attraction is to Stafford for anyone currently not living here?

I can't afford a home at that price, neither can any of my kids.

I'm trapped here, even when the mortgage is paid off in 5yrs and 10 months (Yes, I'm on a countdown), I still won't be in the position to sell and upgrade.
Youngests mate and his girlfriend have bought a home somewhere nestled in Weeping Cross. It's a lovely 2 bedroomed place. Their mortgage is spread over 40years, unfortunately, they have both started to feel trapped in the relationship, everything, there's toio much sunk financially into the place to part ways and say tara. They will loose thousands if they sell now.

Stafford has next to nothing, can’t argue with that

But it’s relatively safe

Has a mainline station

Two motorway junctions, 14 and 15

It’s not Birmingham

It’s not Hanley

It’s dull

Social mobility for me is a masking phrase that I believe was developed by the well off to describe what keeps the poor where they are... I.e the poor are not 'socially mobile'. One thing I am sure of as I have got older is that my happiness does not come from possessions or financial worth, it comes from the true Latin meaning of social (socialis) which refers to companionship. I am more than happy to spend the rest of my life with my wife and family which I suppose means I would be called socially immobile?
I think the mobility charities maybe look to help people caught in the mortgage trap that are currently tracking base rate but unable to remortgage meaning they are at the mercy of the bank of England and inflation. Again it helps if people separate wealth from happiness.

Stafford is a good town but not the most diverse or accepting town that I have ever lived in. This will surely/hopefully be a bubble that bursts in the near future. Would hate to think it was a totally nimby town.
