Has the Railway closed down?
Yup. Apparently Fran & Gary who have The Lamb may be opening it up again in the next week.

The staff in the Castle Tavern have never looked so happy or busy!

I actually commented to Mrs Dogg that I hadn't seen Andreas in there on my way home tonight. I thought I was in a scene from 28 Days Later when I walked past at teatime

Weirdly, I went in for my first "Railway Pint" in about 4/5 years on Sunday and vowed to return for a Sunday lunchtime pint on a regular basis.

I thought the latest people had a good rapour with the locals going?? Shame cos the Abbott Ale was very good an wee'd all over the Common Road I had in the Castle a few weeks back.

Shit, when did this happen? What happened to the current gaffer? While I like Fran and Gary, drank in their various establishments for years, I just always saw the railway as a constant.

i hope it re-opens, i thought it was pretty nice in there since the smoking ban.. and it was perfect for a non-hectic stress-free post-work pint!

that was hyphen-tastic..

Not entirely sure...we thought he was leaving after Xmas.

Yeah so did us lot! This came out of the blue, however the talk of it being taken over pretty imminently by a couple who have a good reputation in Stafford is definitely a good thing.

and there was me planning a wekeend back in the ford and gearing my self up to annoying jamie and seeing how long it would take him to threaten to bar me (again! the record is about 5 mins! :D)

booooo- right then folks, what we gonna do when i come back in 2 weekends? are we just gonna go the railway if its back open by then or are we going to have to try somewhere new. i dont know that im entirely enthused about that. the railways a bit like my favourite slippers, a bit worn, very warm and comfy and just a little bit smelly...but theyre great! (although the railway isnt leopard print....and i do think that might let it down a little bit)

don't mention the blinds
Had a butchers earlier and there was activity going on inside i guess it was the new proprietors, it makes sense to get the doors open asap or risk losing a few of us big spenders......

merely giving the floor a quick scrub is not going to entice me back into that dirty old place -

made me larf that the Range Rover parked outside was immaculate ( note in window to say they were the new gaffers of the inn ) whilst inside the grime stayed put

too true.. i've lost count of the number of times i've had to return a drink in there because of a filthy glass, and the stories i was hearing last night of what the cleaners/new proprietors found when they went in really were horrific..

had a couple in the lamb yesterday with some railway refugees, and was most impressed.. lovely guinness!

i wonder what's happened to all the bottles that were in the railway? they had some very interesting looking whiskies which i'd love to get my hands on..

I have heard that Fran and Gary look after beer well, which is a great thing. My guess is the Railway Inn will be thriving again in no time and lots of people who enjoyed the atmosphere in there will be tempted back. After all, tt is, objectively speaking, of course, the best pub in the world.
