Agreed on the laughter track. It's just not the same without it.

And where's Holly? Hopefully making an apearance in the next two episodes.

IMO they dropped a chance in Saturday's episode; the car should *definitely* have been parked in Bay 47.

Pop Quiz - Somewhere between 1988 and 1994 Craig Charles hosted a show, where each week he would tell a different Sci-Fi (I think) story, only I was under 10 so could remember watching a bit of it and he was sat in this cool chair, but was very RD esc...
I had to go to karate on those nights so had to miss the last 15 minutes of every episode. :(
I was gutted because they were ace. Or I remember they were better because I was little and RD was god to me.

Sorry - little off topic but its been killing me.

Also I agree with the lack of canned laughter... or is canned where its recored seperately like S8? Live was better. Warmer. Slugier etc. When they had to do take after take you could hear the audience laughing at the mistakes, and that time they didn't have a script so Grant was litterly typing it on the screen behind the character to be read out, a marvellous direction of direction! Live audiences rock. anything past S5 though was too clean. RD is about being the last ever human in existance being a farking bum. Its dirty and poorly, yet ingenious stapled and glued together with toilet rolls and scraps from the local uni's scrap bit in the computer sciences department (a gold mine to this day), like the Tracy Islands 'Here's one I made earlier' How-To on Blue Peter. I made the hell out of that island and it was ace.
New RD is too well produced and shiny. FACT.

well, gave the new episodes five minutes more than i should have. felt that my life time red dwarf experience had been slightly sullied so watched the entirety of series five just to remove the taint of the new series.

Well you know, to put into parlance we have probably all experienced;

" Nice ideas but could have tried harder, see me 7/10"

Found the making of far more entertaining, loved the sprayed green flower pots as rocket jets :P

Summed up in one word for me - Disappointing. It really needed the laughter track.

Shame the idea of the characters trying to find the writer/actors was not that original.

The League of Gentlemen did it in their film "Apocalypse", and that wasn't much cop either.

ok, i'm confused.. wasn't it just the first episode on last friday? how come some of you are talking as if you've seen all of them (or at least the first couple)? is it not a weekly thing? have i managed to miss all but the first episode? lol..

not that i'm worried.. i'm sure UK Bilge +1 will repeat it ad naseum..

All three episodes aired over the bank holiday weekend on Dave. They are all over streaming sites now too. Was OK for nostalgia value I suppose but not the best Red Dwarf IMHO

I agree... now get ready for my unashamedly geeky review haha!...

I know the acting wasn't the best back in the day, but the continuity didn't seem to flow as smoothly as it used to. I think setting the last episode on the set of Corrie and using a Smart car as Starbug was a bit cheap 'n' nasty.

However, I did like the bizarre twist involving the interdimentional squid and also the emotional scene with Dave Lister at the beginning of the first episode.

A new series of Red Dwarf is in the offing - any Dwarfers among the forum? I'm looking forward to it! As long as the script writing is up to it why shouldn't it get more legs?

When we had the two part special in 2009 on Dave, as I was watching it, I hated it, then as the second episode was building towards the climax it turned into a classic Red Dwarf style storyline and I loved it when the penny dropped, I loved the writing.

I realise I may be in the minority on that (not many people I spoke to liked it at all!) but that's me.
