We managed to buy, pick up, and break a glass topped coffee table in the space of a hour, any ideas on where we can get glass cut to fit in the local area.

I've asked for a quote from SandwellGlazing, the only one to come up that didn't just do windows and wasn't in Virginia USA, but I thought I'd check on hear to see if anyone knew of local glaziers that would do the job...

Did you buy it with your credit card? If so tell the Card company you might be covered for a replacement.

No, debit card, it's very much our fault for not thinking that the glass was glued on....

Try your bank any way, see what they say.

I'd also query with the retailer that if it breaks so easily if it was merchantable quality and fit for purpose and why they didn't give you adequate handling instructions. You might feel bad but it's worth a try. it doesn't sound like your fault its not like you dropped it, by their very nature coffee tables are meant to moved around so should be up to the job, they might repair or exchange FOC

You might be able to get a large circular mirror at a very reasonable price that would fit that table.

yes, but mirrored glass would look mental, and they tend not to be cheap anyway...

I'd also like it to be tough enough to withstand day to day stuff..

Hey, I know someone has already linked to my thread, but the only thing I could say is unless your willing to spend a small fortune (around £60) to get it cut id defo have a look on ebay!
The best quote I had was from Chatfields of £50 for cut, toughened and polished edges, but it may be more for smoked glass!
I got somthing like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ikea-glas...en_DiningRoomFurniture_SM&hash=item1c2450ffdf
From ebay for £5!
Its even cheaper to buy something online and get it cut locally to size.
Hope this helps!

Yes, because I need it to be a specific size, 30" in the coffee table's case, ebay isn't being all that useful - but I'm awaiting for some quotes for glass and acrylics...
