Replacing your PS4 hard drive

I just replaced my PS4 hdd with a 2TB one, but i did it a bit differently instead of buying a 2.5" hdd i got a 2.5" portable hard drive, i did this for two reasons the first is believe it or not it was £20 cheaper than just buying the hdd even though they were the same hdd, the second reason was to use the hdd enclosure to put my original PS4 hdd in.
How did i do this well it was easy first i only no that it works with the portable HDD i bought and it is this one "Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch External Hard Drive for PC, Xbox One & Xbox 360" search for it on Amazon and make sure you pick the 2TB version because i don't no if this works with the other versions. I am assuming everyone knows how to swap out the hdd in a PS4 but if you don't there are plenty of tutorials on the web.
Unpack the Portable HDD connect to your pc and format into Fat 32 then at the opposite end to the connection end using a Stanley Knife (Box Cutter) Carefully run it along in-between the top and body of the enclosure teasing the top up, you will find it will start to lift and then you can use your fingers to slowly lift the lid off it is held with clips, you will then see the HDD this lifts out easily enough, you will then need to take the 4 rubber screw covers off and put them safe then remove the screws and put them safe, then you will notice some thick foil carefully remove that and keep it, then pull the converter off the hdds plugs carefully and put to one side, you now have the 2TB HDD for your PS4, so go swap the HDD, all you have to do then is put the PS4 original HDD into the enclosure remembering to add the screws rubber screw covers back the converter and the foil back and then place in the enclosure and snap the lid back on and you have your Portable HDD.
Go connect your new Portable HDD to your pc and you will notice it wont been seen you will need to go to This Pc (Windows 10) Manage then Disk Management and look for the portable hdd there if your not sure unplug it and plug it back in you should see it appear in Disk Management then, it looks like a lot of little partitions click each one and delete volume and at the end of that you can then right click the now one big partition and select create simple partition and format into NTFS, after this is done it will be recognised, the end result you got a cheaper 2tb hdd in your PS4 and the PS4 HDD is now a portable hard drive. Do this at your own risk but if followed properly it works fine.
Here is a direct link to the exact one i purchased and i there for no it works fine.

All drives fail

Especially the 'tarmac' ones with the lickle bits of bright green shiny tings in

PS

You are correct. I didn't read every thing you just wrote. I saw shiny things

Who makes the drives inside LaCie products? I've had most brands fail on me, but the worst was 3 Maxtor drives in a 6 month period. Considering I've only had 7 actual failures in over 20 years this was particularly painful!

I was told they are all made in a factory in Taiwan

That floods

But then people tell me stuff

Should be able to, I believe any 2.5" with a sata interface should work (may need to be a 7.5mm?). Just bear in mind that some portable drives use a native USB3 controller rather than sata.

You can use a SSD but bang for buck it would not be worth it the PS4 has a Sata 2 interface so the load times would only be a few seconds quicker, you could also use a Hybrid drive or maybe use a 1TB drive with 7200 spin speed.

Thanks. I probably won't be doing it but just wondered if you could. I have a 1Tb PS4 anyway and I think it should be large enough to store all my stuff.
