Restaurant review: Dilshad's

I've just noticed that there are no reviews of local restaurants/takeaways in this thread, and seeing as we've all demonstrated our love for food in other areas of the forum i think it's time to begin!

If i'm getting food delivered i pretty much always go for Spice Delight for a curry (leave it BBC..we've been there..), or Lotus House for a Chinese (both opposite The Grapes/cinema). Eating out, on the other hand, is a totally different ball game, especially considering neither of those have an eat-in restaurant.

Last night about 15 of us went to Dilshad's (3a-4, Bridge St, Stafford, Tel: 01785 252250, opposite The Grapes) for my friend Sarah's bday....and the food was DELICIOUS! Top quality scran, very friendly (and forgiving) staff..altogether a good night. I had Balti Lamb Jalfrezi Massalla, pilau rice, lamb samosas and a chilli/coriander naan. Highly recommended.

8/10! :chef: The reason for the 8 is twofold: firstly, i don't think it's very healthy to dole out 10s...kinda means you'll taste nothing better. This was great, but certainly not the best food i've ever had, nor the best i shall have in the future. Secondly, my mate is just not a curry person, so was intending to have a steak...but they didn't have any! I'm sure every takeaway menu that gets thrust through my door has at least one type of steak on offer. He ended up eating 2 portions of fried rice and a portion of chips! Carbohydrate overload. Ah well.

When it comes to my overall favourite restaurant in the Ford, i don't think No 5 Gaol Mews can be beaten. I've been there on quite a few occasions, and have always been extremely satisfied. Really good, interesting menu, rustic French-ish dishes, nice old building etc. It's not cheap, but i'd much rather pay a few squid for decent tucker than a fiver for some sorry excuse for a burger in the Hogshead. 8.5/10!

Edit: Oops..just checked the website out, and they describe it as 'fine English Fare'. Still darn good.
