Right. Is this something worth investing in? Only asking, because I work all hours, youngest is starting a new job in the New Year.
Hopefully, for the time being he will be doing days, so that means the house is going to be empty during the day. The neighbours have got one, but I'm not going to even go there as to why I won't approach him and ask about it.

There's a few brands. I had a Ring but didn't want to pay for the subscription so replaced it with a Eufy.

I wouldn't get one unless you're prepared to wire it in to a doorbell transformer.

A doorbell transformer seems like a serious downgrade from Optimus Prime.
I hunted high and low for 2 of that thing many many moons ago, that and the Ghostbusters Car, ECTO1. Almost got mugged walking through Hanley carrying the car. Was offered 5x what I'd paid for it.

Ring doorbells are very useful. You don't have to have it hardwired, I have a rechargeable version and only charge about every 5-6 weeks. You just have to adjust the settings to suit you.

I got a Tapo camera that works on my wifi and an app on your phone so you can see from wherever you are.
Been offline for a wile but about to reconnect so I can catch who lets their dog crap in the street!

Shame it can't see round corners to find out who keeps lighting the fires in the empty houses. Because the ones on the empty buildings are shite.

Enjoying a drop of red.
As you know, this whole estate is high as a kite of an evening on the stuff. Either side of us must partake, the house stinks of it.
Much like walking up Stafford high Street after about 3pm. Really makes you want to spend money there.

Not.

I have a blink camera, it alerts and films as soon as anyone steps on our drive/comes to the door. It's battery operated (4 aa lithium batteries), connects to my phone (or anyone else's who's got the passwords for it, so jeasus could link too), it works in the dark and you can save film clips if you want. You can also get it to film live if you want (if you want to check what's going on outside the house from work).

Bought mine from amazon ...
