General consensus in the Baltic States is that Ukraine is just to see how far we push back, but the consensus inside Russia is that the West is trying to split them up and they need to fight back to stop the foreigners from changing their way of life. It's quite scary how easily a population can be persuaded, but I guess he had Brexit and several elections as practice runs.

My wife is Latvian (hence me knowing whats happening on Russian social media), they think if the Ukraine is allowed to be taken then next step will be one of the smaller NATO countries to gauge willing for a real war. Latvia could be conquered in a day, it only has 2m people and half of them are of Russian descent. A lot will depend on China, if they fully distance themselves he'll likely stop at Ukraine for now but if they signal allegiance we're all in deep shit. One thing he won't do is retreat, Ukraine will have a puppet regime at the best and will be fully consumed at worst.

A mate who I met through work called me today and he is working from Latvia for the next two weeks or so whilst he sorts out his late Mum's property that he inherited last year.

He is seriously considering cutting his trip short and come back to his wife in the UK.

Agreed but they could have had harsher, more expedient sanctions ready to be applied immediately when Russia crossed the border.

Also why state that we won't put boots on the ground? It is probably the biggest deterrent the West has isn't it?

I know there's, a lot of awful & shocking things happening in the world all the time.... But the poor blokes face in the car as people tried to rescue him after the tank ran over him, will haunt me horrific.

We put boots on the ground only when they have resources we can steal and we outnumber them, Putin knows this and will act accordingly. The west won't act til a nato member takes a hit, and the UK won't risk all the lovely Russian money it launders.

I understand the not acting until a NATO member is attacked but why be so blatantly obvious about not putting boots on the ground?

It's basically giving Putin the green light to do what he likes in any non NATO country.

Yup! Am sure he already knows this, my thinking was if China stood with him he'd go straight in but on his own he's still wary.

That was one of the craziest things I have ever seen. Like something out of GTA. Absolute war crime.

Fear not, the baltic states will be next, then it will be time for the rest of us to fear.

Its amongst the most shocking things, the worst being the poor bloke falling head first from the tower on 9/11

He was just driving his car.... They ran over him & then reversed back over.. Just such shocking footage... You can quantify if its people fighting against other people.... But really?
