Well more of factory is coming down, the latest phase in it's demolishment is visible from the Doxey Road. I guess in it's heyday it was the 2nd largest employer (private) in the town.........

The railway betwixt the two redundant factories will be dug up and placed in a field near Seighford

When my Dad worked there, they employed well over 2,000+. When I worked there some 20 years later, this had dwindled to under 500 or so. I now believe that of the 35 or so who moved to Eccleshall, this number has fallen below 20.

I'll be out with some SG employees on Saturday so will get the lowdown.
I'm virtually a stone's throw between Castle Works and Universal so if it was Summer I'm sure I'd be sick of the smell of dust by now! My Mum, Uncle & Grandad worked on the Uni site and My Grandad, Dad & Myself worked on Castle Works. There's a lot of family history disappearing!

I recall the maintenance shop run by John _ _ _ _ ? certainly not as gruff as he sometimes seemed......

All I remember from the Uni is the dust and the smell! We lived in Baxter Green up in Doxey when we first got married. Had a white car which was covered in a pale pink dust all the time.
