It's not the huge loss some think it is - it's the architectural equivalent of putting a bullet through the head of the horse that fell at Becher's Brook.

Is it unfortunate? Yes
Is it an unprecedented tragedy? No

Thats the way to do it!

If you find yourself owning a slightly historical building that you can't do anything with why not follow this easy 1-2-3 plan.

1) Leave it to decay and basically let it turn to Rat Shot

2) Swing a wrecking ball through the most it, and leave it a bit unsafe

3) Say you are going to build affordable housing on the site. If this fails try an orphanage or a pets home for sick kittens

The council will lap it up.

If some people want to save it... stop moaning, get their money out and buy it off the current owner(s).

Sandonia could and should be saved. There are numerous very good examples of buildings in a worse state being refurbished at the very least the facade should be retained.

The owners of this site have left the building to go into disrepair and not followed due process when they previously tried to demolish the building without approval.

This building is part of Stafford’s heritage and the council should do all it can to ensure that the owners preserve the building and either carry out repairs or come up with a scheme which retains the facade

As I said above... get your money out and buy it off the current owner(s) then.

I hope SBC prosecute the owner of Sandonia. They have purposely allowed the building to fall into disrepair in order to try and secure planning permission to demolish the building and redevelop the site.

The council should have taken action against the owner years ago, sadly as a result of the actions by the owner and inaction by the council we are left with a sorry state of a building where only the facade is worth retaining.

No, just listing...
Thats the problem, you can't force someone to upkeep their property to your standards, it's not the USA with their home owners associations. If you own it, and there is no legal restriction on what you do with it, then someone can't stop you getting rid of it unless they're willing to pay up themselves. Nobody wants to pay for its reconstruction, and as it's not listed the owner doesn't need to, so thats why we're here.

Its sad to see it go, but who pays for it's repair if it stays? We can't even afford proper roads, we're a third world country nowadays. In fact I saw an article the other day that thinks before 2030 the average Polish resident will be better of than a British one. Maybe thats the point? Is the UK in some form of dirty protest as a way to stop immigration?
