Yes, but with no pub and probably no job vacancies not many people would want to live in Portknockie so it's not a good example of a village.

There is a hotel which has a bar - does that meet your requirements?

No there probably are aren't any vacancies - it's a village - villages don't tend to be well known for their job opportunities!

Most people who live round here are either farmers, WFH or drive to work.

Would you like another example?

Huntly - small houses go for around 80 - 110k - again no one is getting priced out!

Not if the Victoria Hotel has just got a residential license and / or fizzy beer.
Lack of employment opportunities is largely why villages are rarely the vibrant settlements that towns usually are.
With a shortbread factory, railway station and a couple of pubs Huntly sounds a much better place. I've only ever passed through it.

Quite a nice place in a 1950s sort of way! We had a day out here, great castle, lots of school kids hanging round as there is a big school (or 2) in the town centre but I liked the nostalgic charm of it! This is their post office!

Where is that Post Office, or more likely former Post Office ?
.
During the last few hours I've realised that AirBnB probably doesn't make much difference to Portknockie, one of those places where not many would want to live and few would choose for a holiday with being a days travel each way from central areas such as Stafford.
It has though caused problems in more accessible and popular areas such as Cornwall.
Cornwall has 10,000 Airbnbs but only 69 homes available to rent

There are currently 499 houses to rent in Cornwall. As for Airbnbs, I neither know nor care.

Two things to learn from this:

1 Never trust the press, as they always have an agenda.

2 Can we move on now as you've turned what could have been an interesting thread into a pointless argument about nothing.

That isn't airbnbs fault. Think about it.

I'm thinking of going away next year for my 60th, it's very tempting to rent a croft up in the highlands, well away from family and life.

Yes Gramaisc.
I much preferred Chetwynd House as the proper Post Office it was until 2010 than the Post House pub or whatever it is now, especially as the replacement is up stairs at the back of W H Smiths, not that everyone on here concerns themselves with such matters.
Likewise I much preferred the purpose built Carnegie Library to either of its replacements, and Andrew Carnegie being born in Dunfermline nicely brings us back on topic.
