The Cops say - "This weekend we are deploying knife arches in Stafford during the night time economy to help officers to target and deter those who may choose to carry weapons in our town. We had lots of positive feedback yesterday with support from local licenced premises' and those enjoying a night out."

I wonder if they have an arch to detect rogue apostrophes?

A trucker has seen his lorry seized after police say he was caught stealing scrap metal close to railway lines. Officers revealed they spotted the rag-and-bone man on Network Rail land, off Holderford Road in Stafford, loading scrap into the vehicle.

Staffordshire Police say the driver was ordered to put back his loot before his truck was impounded after it was discovered that he only had a car license. A man has since been reported for multiple offenses.

Staffordshire's Roads Policing Unit shared footage from the scene at around 12noon today (February 4).

A force spokesman said: "This chap thought it was ok to enter @networkrail land in @PoliceStafford and steal scrap metal, but he thought wrong.

"We made him put it all back and then seized his truck for only having a car license. Driver reported for multiple offenses and is now walking back home."

To be fair, I only know because of the Holdiford Aquaduct, carrying the canal across the river a few hundred yards upstream there.

I've walked across it several times but didn't know it was the Holdiford Aquaduct.
Bridges have name and number signs on the Staffs and Worcs but I don't think they do on the Trent and Mersey.

Until today, I thought it was Holdford Aquaduct, so we're all still learning.

Thanks.
I never knew it was called that.
As a railwayman I've used that access point on numerous occasions and never knew the road was called Holdiford Road.

It was always known as Milford TSC (Track Section Cabin) or Milford relay room which is the building in the distance of that photo.

As you say you live and learn 😂

Many years ago, there was a level crossing there, hence the weird shapes of the two roads. Approaching from Tixall on a drizzly night, as a passenger in a Morris Minor, I was delegated to be the intermittent wiper control, as there was only one speed and that was too fast. The wiper switch was in the centre of the car, for that very reason. We came over the canal bridge and onto the river bridge and I decided to give the wipers a sweep, as the bendy bit over the 'new' bridge was approaching, but, it the dark, I operated the switch on the other side of the ignition key and turned the headlights off.

This was not helpful in any way. What was helpful was the presence of the remains of the old road to the level crossing and we came to a halt half-way down there...
