Secret allotments.

Every now and then I discover some allotments that I've never noticed before. There are many "secret allotments" about in Stafford, but I'm amazed that I've never noticed these ones until today.

Cycling up the towpath, returning from the Radford - the hedge there is still a bit transparent at this time of year - only just noticed them, though.

Oh I see. I used to live on the Meadows and I've walked the towpath many a time but I've never spotted them either.

Only as far as Towcester.

I have found three more enclaves that I was unaware, by means of Google Maps, although they are in areas that I rarely frequent.

Not so secret but I spotted some newish allotments next to the footpath between Meadow Road and Kamienna Close when walking the dogs the other day.

Google shows the area as grassland so they might be secret ;)

I noticed these two "open spaces" at the top of Prospect Road the other day, having failed to ever observe them before. I wondered if they might have been intended as allotments when the housing was built?

The apparent rectangles visible in the eastern one looked plausible, but a site inspection suggests that, if there ever was any attempt at cultivation, it was abandoned long ago.

A lone bollard stands guard, for no apparent reason.

And the western one is now largely given over to ad-hoc storage, resulting in the Read Avenue-Shelley Close pathway being closed off. Although, you can still get through to Byron Close.

There is a very rustic 'roadway' giving access to the rear of the various houses alongside there.
