Seven Stars, Brocton.

Drove past last week and it still seemed to be trading in the same old way, but difficult to tell if it is open or closed. No planning applications yet submitted to South Staffs Council for alterations, demolition of the barn etc.

It would be Stafford Borough Council, surely!

No, the boundary around there is weird. The Seven Stars is in Bednall & South Staffs, the Chetwynd Arms is in Brocton & Stafford Borough.

Frank Finlay thinks it's in his ward, which I've always thought it was as well. Certainly friends of mine who are the SS's nearest neighbours vote in Milford ward for the local council elections.

SBC's Licensing Register is in theory online but I can never access it so a couple of months ago I made a FOI request - this is an extract of what I got, no Seven Stars. The pub is in Bednall but the postal address is Brocton.

Clearly our local councils were even worse at geography at school than I was.

Personally I blame the medieval manorial system and 17th/18th century landed gentry.

Don't seem to have a map that shows parish/district boundarys AND recognisable geographic features but I think that basically south of Hazelstrine Lane the A34 is the boundary between Milford & Brocton (SBC) to the east and Acton Trussell, Bednall & Teddesley Hay (South Staffs) to the west except for a Brocton bulge across the road including the Chetwynd Arms, Brocton Close, New Inn Row& Brick Kiln Lane (New Town). Possibly a couple of places south of the Chetwynd but not much.

That would explain why my mate lives in SBC territory.
