singles night

Hi

Brand new to this... does anybody know of anywhere around Stafford that does a singles night, speed dating night, or a singles social event regularly? somewhere that we can turn up and meet people to socialise if nothing else, without having to create an online profile and sign up to a dating site, myself and a female friend have recently become single and we were discussing this the other night

I cant be the only one that hates online dating? this seems to be the only way 90% of people date and meet people these days? I would much rather get out and meet like minded singles and meet somebody in person get to know them at a fun relaxed singles night or speed dating night and see if we have a spark, than try and sell myself on a dating site or get judged entirely on my profile pic,

in this modern world it seems that this is all forgotten and the only way to meet people now is by spending hours on the computer creating the perfect dating profile

I really hope this isnt true

Depends on your age

Art Galleries are a good place to meet someone.

Birmingham had a coming out exhibition recently

Walsall attracts a mixed audience

Or get with the programme. Always ensure you include at least one full length photo on your online profile

People like to know about shapes

If it takes hours to create a profile maybe you need evening classes. Who knows who you might meet

Hi Thanks for getting back to me

I'm 32 and straight

Its not that I cant do an online dating profile, I have done in the past, my problem is I suffer seriously with anxiety sometimes which really affects me socially and badly lowers my self confidence and esteem, i honestly dont feel that confident about myself and because of this I can never feel confident in what I put up, I spend ages deciding over the right photo and the right bio, I would just rather go and meet some people face to face in a fun relaxed environment like a singles night

My anxiety is something that I have got help with tho and i'm determined to battle through and i not let it win, i like to force myself into social situations where I need to talk to people, I am involved with local theatre, local music nights and perform live on a regular basis and I find that it helps to get involved in a social situation and try and work through it even if it is scary, i find the idea of the first date scary as is it and I would much rather get the courage to go along somewhere with a friend so I feel a little more comfortable and meet some like minded singles in a relaxed or fun environment face to face, see if we have a spark, just came to mind after a conversation we both had the other night..

thanks again

Ever thought your internet date might be bricking it too?

Of the last three weddings I've been to two of the couples met online , the third was arranged by the families

And by the way... You just wrote your own profile above :)

As a newly single person myself I'm wondering the same, been over 10 years since I was out there and the landscape has changed considerably. I've had a look at a few dating websites but they just seem so, I don't know, false? Doesn't help that I lost contact with a lot of my old social group, and it's pretty much always been through mates that I've ended up meeting people in the past.

Not actually sure I'm even ready to start seeing people yet, just very aware that I have no idea where to do so nowadays.

maybe we should have a Stafford forum meet up aimed at single people and get people to bring single friends and just let the conversation flow - if nothing else we can all just sit there slating online dating!

Eharmony and Match have come up in conversations as more serious dating sites

Plenty of Fish ...if you like plenty of fish

It's pof I just signed up for, and it feels so fake it's unreal. Is this how people meet nowadays? Why have 12 profile pics if all have instagram filters on? Pretty sure you don't have dog ears in real life luv, so I'm now even more sceptical about the air brushing! Doesn't help that I have first hand experience of the software used to keep fishes hooked, fake profiles that send messages you need to be a paid member to read. No idea if that particular site uses them, but it did seem weird a right hotty from Ireland messaging me within seconds of signing up! Not actually responded, cos I'm a cynical bastard.

Plenty of Fish

Rule 1 Serial users of both sexes operate here

Rule 2 If you actually have a second date be aware of the range of STD's available to you

I have been told that Bumble is the Tinder for those that actually want a relationship, not a one night stand.

right so when and where is this singles night? do we knock on a door and utter the secret entry password? Everyone will need to be vetted for correct level of spelling and grammar of course (counts me out ha ha)

Recently tried POF, found the same. Looked at match.com but even if you pay they can't reply unless they do too or you pay double to allow anyone to message you. Most profiles are irrelevant as there is no indication if they have paid or not, so you never know if the message you spend ages writing can even be read!

Plus match came up with 6 recommendations for me, I already knew 3 of them and one is my exe's daughters best mates mum (try saying that 3 times fast after a skinfull). Stafford is a very small pond to fish in.
