Smoke Alarms.....

So, current abode has x2 mains wired smoke alarms. Is there any regulation that I must replace with wired or can I stick up a couple of battery powered devices.
Whilst I get the installation 20 years ago I note that some of the current alarms advertise a battery life of 10 years which will probably outlive me anyway.....

I believe that you can do what you like.

Should you wish to rent out the dwelling, clipboards may become involved.

It should be easy enough to replace the current ones, and you have the benefit that both should sound when either is triggered.

Cheers, cost is a driver as the wired type are averaging at £30 each whilst the long last battery models are half that. But hey, what price is life.....

Think I paid about £23 in Wickes for mains ones. Main advantage is that because they are linked if one is triggered they both sound off.

I replaced one of mine just yesterday. bought a FireAngel from B and Q, 16 quid with a 10 year life. Thought it was good value myself. This replaced one fitted by the fire brigade over 10 years ago so they come with good recommendations......

If you contact the fire service (online not 999 silly!)

They will come and fit fire alarms for free plus give you a home safety check!
