So, this budget then, nobody care?

I don't really, the vat rise is almost cancelled out by the tax band rise so thats not too bad an issue. As long as food stays zero rated its not an issue. Nice to see no rise in beer/fags/petrol, although the vat rise accounts for those anyway I guess.

I'll be a bit worse off, but not really much. I suppose the biggest hit for me is no pay rise for 2 years, but it could have been a lot worse.

exactly the same here..

i'm well aware the country's piggy bank is in a bad way, so it makes sense to me that i should have to pay a bit more (along with everyone else) in order to pull us out of shit creek.. i'm just surprised it's not harsher than it is, i'm assuming i've missed something somewhere lol..

I'm amazed it's so lenient, especially with no rise on alcohol and tobacco. The country spends more than it takes in, but even so I'm likely to be a couple of hundred quid better off next year. The thing with a VAT increase is that it's a choice, food isn't VATed.

What did they say about Cider... I just heard "cider" and "10%" but nothing else...
The planned increase on duty by the previous government as been scrapped.

Have to admit I thought it was very friendly. Not much in there I disagree with although it's cleverly done. Ideas such as giving everyone another £800 a year (after tax) by raising the threshold and then upping VAT by a little means there will be more disposable income so more spending whilst still regaining the same POS tax (point of sale, not piece of s**t :P ). I guess it keeps cash sloshing around the economy a little more.

You don't need me to tell you how pleased I am about the stance on welfare lol

Public sector pay freezes - long overdue.

I think this is going to affect me in the same way the recession did - not at all. Brilliant!

Chancellor George Osborne also announced that the 10% above inflation increase on cider, which was announced at the last Budget in March, will be reduced by the end of this month.

Erm...Petrol's still going up in October and Januray, as per the last budget isn't it?
They didn't say it was cancelled did they?

I think you're right UltraBSM however they haven't announced anything surplus to this which is a relief.

even better news. Drinks giant Heineken, which owns cider brands Bulmers and Strongbow, will pass the 8% reduction in cider duty on in full to customers.

If I had a say it would only effect the higher earners who really are remunerated way way beyond their level of competence, those earning up to £30k shouldn't be touched. It's when you see council officials being paid £100k for doing the same job as I do for £25k, and they probably don't do it as well as private sector workers that you think it's getting out of hand. Unlike the private sector the councils work on a basis of ass licking, submitting to shit you don't necessarily believe in and towing the line = climb up to the higher stratosphere in no time.

Bit (extremely?) naive to suggest that doesn't happen in the private sector I think.....

As for the budget, couple of thoughts... means testing should have been brought in on child benefit - it is long overdue and would save a considerable amount. Aviation taxes ought to have been cranked right up.

Yup, the private sector can ass lick just as good as anyone else in order to climb the ladder BUT you've got to perform when you get up there or you're thrown back down.
