Anyone heard anything about the stabbing in Newport in the early hours of this morning?

What??? Newport??? It feels as though nothing bad could ever happen in Newport...although I did notice police tape closing off the newsagency on what I call the Newport Road and Newport people call the Stafford Road just outside the town centre on Saturday morning. You sure it was this morning?

Unusually, the darts team hadn't heard but a few minutes ago the Shropshire Star started carrying breaking news of a 20-year-old man from Newport who was 'rushed' to hospital this morning. Two teenagers have been arrested and it is thought that all three knew each other.

I'd just found that - http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2012/08/24/two-arrested-after-newport-man-found-stabbed-in-home/ - after reading the report of the affair at the paper-shop..

Shropshire internet.

I hear that the victim was only released from prison a couple of days ago.
Revenge attack?

That would be the victim of the stabbing, of course, and not the victims of the bottle attack that we got side-tracked onto, just in case anybody misunderstands..

Over the years Newport has had more than its fair share of murders, robberies and drug problems. Before moving to Stafford I lived there. I thought I was moving to a relatively calm pleasant town. The first weekend there was a smoke bomb let off in the local nightclub followed by a major disturbance and the following week a youth was found badly burned behind a supermarket. Over the years their was Mike Taylor sentenced to 9 life sentence for abuse aginst children, the sad case of a lad sentenced for murdering a man who raped his mother and many more serious crimes.

Blimey! All I can say is I've never felt safer anywhere. Until earlier this year we lived just outside Newport. We lived there for 15 years and only locked our doors when we went on holiday. Now we live in a village closer to Stafford. I still do all my shopping in Newport and love the friendly, comfortable atmosphere. In fact, I'm typing this from Newport now.

Never felt that safe in Newport, originally from donnington you see and unfortunately Newport has a small town mentality and as such wouldnt dream of telling people I was from Telford if I was there on a night out.

I regularly used to go to The Village on a Friday in the 70s/80s - punk nights mostly. It always looked a bit dodgy, but nothing happened. The bouncers said that Saturday nights could get a bit rowdy when the young farmers appeared, with their top two buttons undone*..

You'd like to think it would be shirts. One evening I was driving through Forton and passed a crowd of student joggers, naked except for rugby boots. My husband cast doubt on my sighting until the local paper reported their arrest. Harper Adams was very cross and made them all clean out the canal in the town centre.

We made a point of avoiding trans-cultural interactions with them - they were more Phil Collins than Lurkers...

Limited gene pool. Some weird people but also some exceptionally nice people but they were usually people who had moved in to the town.

I saw an elderly lady, naked walking to Forton early one Sunday morning. She was a resident of the care home on Forton Road.

I called the home and they picked her up.
