Staff forum

Does anyone's place of employment have a staff forum, and if so how is it policed?

Am putting together a proposal for one where I work, but it needs to be worded in such a way so as not to send the organisation's top brass running for the hills.

Basically, we want one in place but don't want it filled with grot and potty-mouthed oubursts, and I don't want to have to sit there and go through it all every day.

are you using an off the shelf package, or bespoke stuff? if it's the former, then you will have all manor of control built-in, which might do a lot of the hard work for you.. swearing filters, ability to restrict images, forcing messages to be screened before publication, etc.. any forum is going to require some policing, though..

just get al your users to sign up here instead :teef:

What you might find, and we've certainly found with our students, is they have official means for communication but have chosen to set thier own forum up as they found the official one restrictive and un-friendly to use.

A lot depends on what people are use to using already - if they don't have anything already in place, and no ones set up one anyway with existing on-line tools you might have problems getting people to use it - unless you make it a requirement, then you've got problems with motivation and time allocation

(can you tell I've just written an essay on this kind of thing)

We have nothing at the moment, other than an Outlook-based system for people to post classified ads, which we would probably incorporate into the forum.

A few teams have already asked if they can have forums for work-related questions, but what I don't want to do is start setting up umpteen individual forums. I'm fairly sure there will be a market for it, but we need to go about it in the right way.

It's all just at the ideas stage at the moment, so God knows. We could probably do with a bit of filtering etc though - it's one of the recommendations I'm putting in the proposal to answer the question of what we'll be doing to legislate against rude things going on.

We're getting one and I know of another trust which already has one in place. I'll be in touch jimbob. Send me a reminder next week.
