Stafford Car Parks

Just returned from a shopping trip to the town centre which included a short walk and coffee stop in South Walls where I noticed the location that use to house the Magistrates Court is now ANOTHER car park, my question is why was another car park required in a town that possibly has more closed and empty shops or stores ???

This is a VIP car park reserved for the nobs that work for the council. Having to walk any further to their desks (which of course they don't use because most of them are working from home) would tire the poor little lambs out. Fortunately the windfall they get from taxpayers each year has been able to resolve this problem for them.

How much is council tax going up this year?

Stuff essential services eh...

Sorry but I do beg to differ!

The Council knobs will, of course, frequently use the car parks. Where else will they park for free when shopping or eating in the Riverside shops?

Not to mention it's only a trolley's throw from Asda or the real town centre.

God forbid that the Council knobs will mix with the great unwashed of Stafford and use the public transport that still exists!

Our money well spent I say.

I think you are a very cynical person.

Perhaps when they demolish the Police Station they’ll build another car park for us peasants ?

Or the luxury car-park will cater for the luxury* apartments that shall be built where the police station currently is?

*tiny, cramped and massively overpriced

My biggest gripe is that many of the car parks are still cash only. When you pay with an app there's a surcharge. Even those that do have a card reader don't always work.

It's hardly a massive increase. Sheridan Street (opposite Iceland) works out at £2.80 for 4 hours via the app). So much cheaper than the Wilko car park its next to.... Plus there's plenty of free parking of you want it or don't need more than 2-3 hours....

It's 2022. If anybody wants my business they accept cards, contactless or bank transfer.

Not that I'd ever pay to park in Stafford anyway. Not as if there's a shortage of free parking.
And that's why most businesses accept both.

There are car parks where you can actually pay when you get home online. Obviously you need ANPR for that. Anyway, even if I get cash out of a cash machine that is notes, not coins. So then I need to make an additional possibly needless purchase to build up some change.

You can sort of see why I never go into Stafford town centre much. What with the diabolical traffic down Radford Bank/Lichfield Road, 20 year old parking machines and the fact most of the shops seem to be empty and there's better choices out of town. Often I end up ordering online after going to the shops as they simply do not have what I want.

Remember when someone got hired to work out why the high street was dying? it's not difficult.

Really? Do you not use one of the parking apps?

I use the parking apps all the time now,its so much more convenient.Especially as I can rarely accumulate change .
Are there no machines in Stafford where you can swipe your card to pay?
