Stafford Eagles MC 1988-1991

A few posts under my belt
Hi all. First-time poster. In 1988 I was 19 and, along with two friends (same age), became friends of the Stafford Eagles MC. We met at the pub called the Joiners Arms, later changed to the Mutant Turtle. We were welcome at the clubhouse on the Stone Road any time (although WAGs could only turn up on Saturdays).

Our particular friends were Den the Vice-President, quite young, dirty-blond hair, tache, soft voice, outrageously good-looking; Chill, a prospect, working to earn his patches, Brummie, long dark hair, extremely gentle, smoked a chillum; and Berg who was quite short and stocky but had the loudest voice in the known Universe and was a very imaginative swearer. Berg sadly died in around 1989-90, and had a full colour funeral with more bikes than Stafford had ever seen before.

Den used to ride a black chopper-type bike (might have been a Harley Davison, but I don't know for sure). I used to get a lift up the Stone Road riding pillion, no helmet (well, it was a different time), and never felt prouder or cooler than those rides.

The Eagles were absolute gentlemen. We three girls weren't girlfriends, but we were absolutely off-limits to Eagles members and visiting chapters. I was taught to play pool there. Den became a proper friend and even spent Christmas Day at my house one year, along with my parents. My mum was absolutely thrilled (genuinely!) and was fascinated by this guy leading a MC who had such a bad rep, but was highly intelligent, an entertaining storyteller, eloquent, soft-spoken and offered to wash up. It was a really great day. My dad got to talk bikes to his heart's content.

Three young women in the Eagles clubhouse sounds dodgy, right? The absolute opposite was true. We were safer there than anywhere else. One guy from a visiting chapter tried it on with me and was put in his place very firmly, very quickly and very publicly. We could even stay the night, safe in the knowledge that no-one would touch us.

Does anyone know anyone who might recognise the description of Den or Chill? I'd love to find out how they're doing. I know there was a firearms incident after I left Stafford, and the club was swallowed up by the Outlaws. But any help gratefully received. My profile photo is me at the age of 19 or 20.
Thanks loads. X
