The Stafford Gateway Masterplan would develop land near to Stafford railway station and has been planned on the back of the multi-billion pound HS2, which will stop off in the town.

Developers have already shown an interest in the 28-hectare site, which could see 650 apartments, 150 houses and a new multi storey car park with 1,400 spaces built on it.

On top of this council bosses say leisure chains have already expressed an interest in building a hotel with conferencing facilities on the site.

Hate to be negative, but the redevelopment of the town has been less than impressive! Can't even seem to get the much vaunted cinema started! :tumbleweed: must stop being negative! Oh well, we will see! am 54, might see it, but won't be holding my breath!

You mean that cinema site in which work progresses on a daily basis? (I have toddler that loves diggers, I'm having to take a keener the usual interest in a building site)

I've added it to the Proposed developments map - the Newsletter had a handy little map - http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....-of-stafford/story-30412161-detail/story.html

I mean the cinema site which was levelled weeks ago; some hardcore put down, 2/3 diggers have sat motionless for a couple of weeks, ........ yep that is the one, and others have made the same point, admittedly not on here, but there will be no award for rapidity! Forgive me I am impatient, I was using that old tactic of exaggerating to emphasise my point. You might not like it, but surely you must admit, its been a bit slow. I bet your toddler would love the diggers even more if they actually did something!

Am sure it will all come in time! But I had big hopes that the cinema might speed the development of the Riverside Leisure zone, and stem the demise of the Town! Well at least this end!

I've no idea how long it takes to build a cinema, or indeed what obstacles lie in their way, as previously used sites often through up interesting curve balls - which I'm assuming is the story behind the asbestos poly tunnels. I don't even know how many companies in the UK are tooled up to build a cinema, and maybe Stafford just has to wait it's turn - but I do see progress on that site, and I'm sure if these plans get a go ahead progress there as well.

The delusion of our council developers and planners never ceases to disgust me:

"we will not forget to protect what we already have - a safe, clean and green borough with an excellent quality of life"

Green? Green? No cycle paths, no provision in new developments for cyclists, building on every available field, with no small area of green safe, even the Marshes isn't safe from the looneys in Tipping Street. And now they want to develop land with those architectural carbuncles. I feel like HopeDad but f*ck me Stafford is a lost cause is that is anything to go by.

Edit, if my understanding of the location is correct, this isn't all 'derelict' land, alot of this is the fields currently occupied by the rugby club. These are fields and mature trees, and as much as I despise them after their actions trying to get a new club approved, it's a bit harsh and very inaccurate calling the land they currently occupy derelict.

"Under the plans another entrance to the railway station would be built on both sides while enhanced walking and cycling routes through to the town centre would also be unveiled."

Behave! Staffords pathetic existing cycle provision was regularly called 'enhanced' when first provided yet every cyclist who uses the cycling routes provided knows that it's a daily dice with death. Enhanced does not mean proper and fit for purpose sadly. Much like the new road improvements on Foregate Street where the planners have made no provision for cyclists despite having a perfect opportunity to do so. So, forgive my cynicism about Stafford planners and cycling provision, but it's based on real actual experince of the absolute balls up they consistantly make during their attempts to tick the cycle path box while not actually doing anything actually properly useful and safe.

Presumably everything on Castlefields, the Royal Mail Depot and those nice terraced railway cottages get levelled? Those cottages, I think, are very pretty, and it would be a shame.

As for the cinema, I've seen work there again this week.

It would seem to include the current rugby club site which might make a bit of profit for someone and the bowling club. Is there a plan of the development anywhere rather than highly misleading artists' impressions?

Not that I can find - I suspect because planning documents haven't been submitted, just an adjustment to the town plan at the moment. It's listed on the agenda here - http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/democratic-services-forward-plan - I assume full planning will follow.

Loving the corrugated cardboard roof for the west station entrance . This is exactly how Bilbao became a tourist destination

That was rescued from English Electric and has been undergoing a loving restoration for the last 30 years. Keeping Stafford's heritage alive.

The listed cottages' gardens are included in the image as is the sorting office

I love the single issue "cyclists are great" comments. Ban them all and there would be less accidents ! (on the other hand, register them all and fine them every time they ignore traffic lights, obstruct other users or blind them with their flashing lights)

Excellent ideas. When are we applying those things to car drivers in Stafford? Just a wild guess i know, but if we ban cars maybe even more accidents would be prevented?
