Stafford Half Marathon.

Why is this even a guessing game?

You apply to take part in this crap shoot, what?

Give them your dimensions upon entry - how is this even left to chance?

My name is Withnail, and i wish to take part in your stupid long run...

*were you to complete this really stupid long run, we are thinking of giving you a piece of clothing to commemorate it, would you like that?*

Yes, that would be great - now i think the best way to proceed is to just take a wild guess about what size that item of clothing should be

Folks don't always take the size they order!. My wife ran the Barcelona half marathon a few weeks ago & their t-shirts were running really small. Everyone was having to go up a size or even two in some cases.

I've just looked up the Stafford 10k tomorrow to find out about road closures and am astonished to see that "Entry price starts from £21" - just for running six miles. Freedom Leisure must be raking it in.

The average cost of a 10k race 6 years ago was £16. I very much doubt that they are raking it in.....

Enjoying a drop of red.
Yes, but I don't see what you're getting for the money.
It's not as if the £21 includes a carvery in the Bird in Hand for everyone who completes the course.
You're getting an entry into the race. Just because you don't see the point is irrelevant. There are plenty of people who do and who care about running. I doubt you'd see the point about the cost of my season ticket to God's own Liverpool FC or my classic car obsession but who cares?

Horses for courses mate.

I was just suggesting that £21 seems rather a lot for getting an entry into the race but, as you rightly point out, I suppose we all have our extravagancies.

We used to do loads of races years ago.( And help organise them as part of Stafford Harriers) But no way would we fork out extortionate amounts for things like ' race for life' where people like my workmates would saunter/walk the course and take a picnic for half way.
Prices have certainly got rather steep since we used to race.

Dude - road closures, manned vehicles dropping cones, marshals en route, signage, medals and associated trinkets, do you think these things drop out of the sky?

Anything that has to be planned incurs an expense. Anything that incurs an expense incurs a charge.

I think at the very least you get a shirt and potentially a medal. I know that was the case for the half.

Everyone gets a medal, you opt in for a tshirt. It is however a good quality one. Some of the ones you get from races are very poor.
