The Good, the Bad...

...and the ugly.

They can take away our sense of civic duty, but they will never take our freedom.

Oh, wait... they took our freedom and gave it to Freedom.

It seems to be going swimmingly so far.

With the London Marathon now postponed till October, will the same thing happen with Stafford Half Marathon this weekend, due to Coronavirus?
I wouldn't of thought so. The government haven't banned mass gatherings but probably will during the week.

I went to Paris to run the half marathon there 2 weeks ago and they cancelled it on the Saturday afternoon yet let the PSG football carry on and allowed Disneyland Paris to stay open.... Bonkers!!!

I am surprised they have not previously shut Disneyland Paris down for environmental health reasons.

Have you seen the size of the mice!

A pound to a pinch, somebody will have scrolled through this forum, not looked at this thread properly and told somebody "i saw the date of the half marathon has been rearranged", purely through skimming info!

I feel this weekend could be the last time we see anything like a mass gathering for some time! Working on some big local events and being self employed, I'm finding this all quite "anxiety riddled!"

Major thread reboot here,
Sending good luck wishes to all of those taking part in todays Half Marathon. More staminer than I have in the tip of my little finger.
Sat here watching the cars pulling up and the runners and families getting ready.
Shame they've all had to pay for parking, due to a lot of those participating will be raising money for charity, I hope they all pop into Sainsburys afterwards, buy sumat and get their quid back.
As mentioned on Facebook, I won't be taking part yet again, as the only Marathon i'm interested in is now called a Snickers!

Good luck to all the runners. Such a shame there are some car drivers whose sense of entitlement is such that they cannot wait a few minutes to let runners past. I’ve just watched one lady get out of her car, remonstrate with the marshall and then proceed to drive round him to force her way through. I hope she gets stuck further up the road.

That's Conservatism for you. Back in the day when we had a police force they would have had a significantly higher presence rather than zero hours contract people trying their best.

I wandered round the shops whilst waiting for him, there's no point trying to follow someone who does it a shade over 1.30, and the amount of people moaning they couldn't get through. It's not as if it hasn't been advertised for weeks.

A driver in a shagged out Golf stalled by the lights to St Leonards Avenue after weaving through the cones....the poor leaders of the race had to run through a load of petrol fumes to pass him....

Well done to all the runners taking part. Nice to see a big turn out to support at top of Radford bank again , and all down Baswich Lane.

(And feeling very jealous again that I'm not back in my younger and fitter days and can only watch and cheer them on nowadays . Would love to run again but racing all distances those years ago has knackered my knees. )

Didn't have the fitness to take part today but so happy to see so many fellow Stafford Harriers running the route. The organisers have an offer where you can enter Septembers 10k and next years Stafford half for £40 odd quid which is good value

I'd forgotten about the half marathon being today and had to wait a while to get off Parkside whilst the runners went past.

Not a problem as it doesn't happen very often and I wasn't in any particular rush.

The marshals could have made it a bit easier for cars by letting one car through to the white lines of the junction at a time because most runners/walkers were a good car length from the junction when they crossed. I also had to ask one of the marshals to move slightly because he was blocking my line of sight along Beaconside.

Still the event raises a lot of money for good causes so waiting a few minutes isn't a big deal.
