Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Went to the Alice in 1992. called in at the rock as well.

" I have sat here day after day this winter, sleeping a good deal in my chair, hardly knowing if I was in London or the Gulf country, dreaming of the blazing sunshine, of poddy-dodging and black stockmen, of Cairns and of Green Island. Of a girl that I met forty years too late, and of her life in that small town that I shall never see again, that holds so much of my affection."
I was lucky, flew into Ayres rock on a direct flight from Cairns... Great views of the rock even before I visited the place!!

Getting back on the topic of Stafford premises closing I've realised that that includes the following 34 pubs I've known ;
Albion
Antelope
Bank House
Castle Tavern
Chambers
Crispins Tavern
Dog and Partridge
Dog and Rabbit
Doxey Arms
Eagle
Falcon
Island
Kings Head
Lord Nelson
Lynton Tavern
Nags Head
Nesbitt Arms
New Inn
New Victoria
Plough Inn
Prince Albert
Rickerscote Arms
Rifleman
7 Market Square
Shepherds Bushes
Stafford Ale House
Stafford Arms
Tavern
Telegraph Inn
Theatre Bar
Three Tuns
Unicorn
West Way
White Lion

That leaves not many more than forty remaining and quite a few of those won't survive a year of coronavirus.

That reminds me of a song about living nearby

Alpine Lodge and The Garth as well.

I still call them 'The Alpine junction ' , and 'the speed cameras by the Garth'.

The Alpine Lodge, originally Plough and Trumpet, is listed as the Rickerscote Arms.
I don't know how I missed the Garth which I remember for its thriving Public Bar. Thanks.

Aaah right , sorry , last time I went in it was the Alpine .

I used to go to the Garth a lot , couldn't believe it when they knocked it down for housing.

I used to live right next door to The Garth. On Sunday I would walk over to the outdoor, buy a pint of Banks' for my Dad (with his money) to enjoy with his Sunday lunch and walk back home with it. I was only 8 or 9 when I did this.

But I didn't think Chambers, the Bankhouse and the Stafford Ale House were operating as pubs, under whatever name, thirteen months ago.

I didn't read anything in your post mentioning thirteen months ago, why is that relevant?

The Bank House and Stafford Ale House were definitely open then albeit under different names anyway.

Stafford Ale House was, it's been redrum for several years now.
I mentioned the Stafford Ale House as I understood Redrum is a "live music venue" and thought it charged for admission which would put it beyond my definition of "pub" but I've never been in so am not sure.
