Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

It is a bit of a strange move, the old Woolworth's site seems marginally larger and the rents probably a bit cheaper, can only assume he's concerned it looks a bit run down now, and a bit like a jumble sale inside which I doubt is the look he's going for today.

Guess the new store , like most others will have key things on show to take away and a bigger emphasis on click and collect.

Although maybe he's took a few spare units on over there, as he's just opened Evans Cycles there too.

You only have to look at the new £10m (I think!) Birmingham New Street store to see that Sports Direct are trying to go a little bit more modern. It's a good thing - but, the bottom end of Stafford might as well now be bulldozed!

3 bars
2 cafes
1 gym

It’s evolving

Retail is dead

The road will be made into a huge grass lawn from the London Mayor’s birth place up to dance studios, with tree hammocks and an Irish themed vegetable patch. Possibly four hammocks

£14 million well spent

Similar to Boris's Garden Bridge then.

So Lambretta is still staying in Stafford at least but moving to the vacant store next to Gregg's , the old Accessorize place.

On the subject of Sports Direct , apparently according to the guys in Lambretta he's ( the Fraser Group ) actually purchased the whole shopping centre .

That's really interesting, and good news for Lambretta (not that I've ever needed anything from them but it adds some flavour to the shopping center)

Shops moving around is usually a landlord thing. Trying to get shot of a bad one. Like when Starbucks were asked to pay for roof repairs and said no, left the unit and returned later once the roof was fixed.

I don’t blame them, you pay for the shell - if the shell has a problem it’s a landlord issue

It depends what it says in the lease. It's not uncommon for the tenant being responsible for repairs and maintenance.
That's more usual if you take on the entire structure, didn't Starbucks have 2 floors of flats above that were rented out separately?

So the company on that website is Can Do Collection ltd. Companies House links it to unit 201 at Trentham... Any ideas

Flasks

If only someone would invent them

Then humans could drink coffee at any time of the day, anywhere

Flasks

Just as well for cafe owners that nobody has

Can Do changed the company registered address from Newcastle under Lyme to Trentham Village in March 2021. One of the directors, Matthew Richardson, was previously a director of Hood Steak House in St Mary Mews, Stafford.
