Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Forum O. G.
Why there isn't a specific Riverside thread is beyond me - maybe @Admin could look at stuff - possibly a specific 'Shopping' Sub forum like the Pubs & Eating out one. There could be ongoing threads for the Guild Hall, Markets, Riverside etc
There have been several threads about the Riverside development.

I have to say I cannot disagree, as recent posts of places opening are on this essentially closing thread.

But then it doesn't take much for people to post under the most appropriate thread :)

There is a "stafford-shops-opening-turning-into-a-boom-town" thread which seems quite appropriate for opening shops.

Surprise surprise that beginners place is shutting down today.

Not a very good name for starters- always looked dull walking past, no appeal no cliche..

It's going to end up shut these days, that's how it is

Did you ever bother to venture beyond the front door @Zylo? Bought my husband a fantastic pair of Levi's in there last week for a bargain price. Pretty unpleasant attitude to have towards an independent retailer who had the balls to give it a go.

Sounds like most people didn't, Like I said why would you want to? good for you though, probably just as good online 20£ cheaper.

Called it months ago, you can say i'm a dick all you want but I'm just saying how things are these days, sadly.

What is wrong with the shop name?

Shops are going to shut if we always shop online. It's cheaper because they have less overheads/more buying power. If you don't mind shops shutting then fine.

Unless it's actually unique & made a effort to advertise etc, a lot of people havn't even heard of it, you can easily walk past it and not even notice it also.

Things take a bit of thought these days.

That was Stafford's best shop imo, if it's Absolute Beginners you are referring too? My daughter loved it in there and we spent considerable pounds! It sold quality and unique clothes at reasonable prices, much of it made in the UK. It also sold vintage wear. I can't get my head round Stafford people. Spend their whole time pissing and moaning that we don't have any good shops and when we get one that's sells unique stuff they all run off like sheep to Primark :(

To be honest for once we agree. Here was a very good independent shop that differs from the normal and it is not used.

HOWEVER location and even timing is key and this shop was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It was a shop trying to establish itself in a location with very little daytime footfall selling clothing way off the standard beaten track for retail in the town centre.

Even if the cinema was open with footfall there it likely would have been bypassed.

So while I know on paper it looks a good spot it was at the very least the wrong time and definitely the wrong spot, which is a shame. Elsewhere in the town hub it would have had a chance.

I agree with the above. Hopefully, the shop is relocating to a spot with more footfall.

I'd love to see the guildhall full of independents like absolute beginners.

Tell me, where would the best place in town to open this shop? It needs to be 1000sq foot approx.?

Indeed, I've noticed since the new route from The Oval into Riverside, behind Humphry court has opened up this is my usual walk into town, skipping bridge street - I'm sure I'm not alone. I'm sure the cinema will help a little with that
