Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Stafford town centre street names are confusing, even when I worked on Greengate Street I didn't understand why its name changed half way down & why its not called High Street?!

For the avoidance of doubt, the north end is going to be renamed 'High and Dry Street'.

Well there is also a case of the market requirement was saturated in the town centre with similar offers - wh smith, clintons, card factory and that other one in the guildhall, that's before your look at supermarkets. I am surprised all the aforementioned are still operating to be honest.

Somethings aren't sustainable when there options and at times cheaper alternatives and location can be relative I always think of the days of the town centre video shops, in stafford you had videoworld, video action came and the former went.

Along came the video outlet that is now bath store and its free parking ...then went video action. It is with a heavy heart that sometimes even in retail there is a circle of life.

That wasn't about retail circle of life, that was about technological advancement.........video's became obselete. Nothing to do with retail.

It is great to see all of the posts on here from people wanting to see more independent open in Stafford and we invite and look forward to all on 'Stafford Forum' visiting us in the near future.

Is mango bean gone? Closed last few times I went past, I don't do coffee though so wasn't somewhere I paid attention to.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Back from a trip into town this morning and happy to report that both Bean Encounter and Salter Street Toys were doing a roaring trade :)
Went for a quiet coffee in Café Nero this morning and it was very busy, as was Millets.

Off to the Swan in a mo so will see what's going on in that end of town.

I did wonder that as the place was empty at one point this morning however later I saw staff in there...

Whoever thought it was a good spot for a coffee shop needs their head checking

Bear Grill was reasonably busy last night, considering it was a Wednesday in January! They weren't run off their feet, but there were only a couple of empty tables all night.

Nice birthday meal for t'other half, not so nice bill at the end! :P

Had a walk into town today, see they're repairing / replacing the drainage channels by Cafe Nero / Specsavers, which means lifting and relaying all the brick sets too. Looked like not a bad job.

I agree, but not sure how using the same brickwork would equate to £56k for this section just new driainage channels and laboutr, especially as the work will only go up to millets.
