Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

Was that the place that "couldn't" take card payments?

I’d seen this sign a few times and always assumed it was simply a tax fiddle.

When I went past on Friday night it was absolutely packed. Perhaps the tax man has caught up with them?

Or maybe the council room enforcement action for the works they did without permission.

Hope not as apart from food/drink places it's the only shop I regularly go to in town outside of Mill Street

However, it must be remembered that in their previous locations they must have had at least a couple of dozen closing down sales over many, many years before they eventually moved 25m, so all isn't necessarily lost.
Maybe moving into one of the new units at sports direct when that goes . It probably is just rebranding though.

The Off Licence along Wolverhampton Road had a sign up saying "Please don't use contactless". Very strange, makes you wonder if they had a bit of a card fraud side-line going on.

The One Stop by Alexandra/Merick Road? We’re in there several times a week and never noticed a sign!

Well I was on about when I went in there last a couple of years back. I used to use the DPD drop off but seeing a sign like that concerned me.

Previous owners definitely dodgy (were done by trading standards I think for selling bootlegged wine and never had any stock, some rumours of nefarious activities upstairs) but family who’ve run it for the past few years are absolutely sound so I wouldn’t have thought anything underhand going on. We’ve always used contactless in there with no ill effects

The difference was if you used contactless they couldn't film you entering in your pin number. I think the chip helps prevent card cloning and use in the UK but overseas is a different matter.

I don't know which family it was when I went in. It may have been 2018 come to think of it.
