Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

We always have had loads haven't we?
Possibly, I guess maybe more of them are now on Uber perhaps

Do wish we had a bit more variety in Stafford though, I was up at the Arcadian in Brum yesterday and it was quite eye opening just how many different types of restaurants/takeaways we don’t have a single one of. Of course it does necessitate having people willing to be patrons of those places too

Just been scrolling through Uber Eats seeing what’s available…

When did we get so many Indian places? I swear there’s more and more popping up on there. You’d think it’d be a saturated market by now.

Your probably seeing one's on the app in more far flung bits of Stafford (Silkmore, Parkside etc) you wouldn't usually see - I can't think of any new ones recently.

We've never even managed to keep a mexican, I think the people of Stafford are definitely more tikka massala than shawarma and mansaf.

But "many different types of restaurants / takeaways" is only to be inspected in a city with twenty times Stafford's population, especially one with much greater diversity than we know.

But if Staffordians prefer it as the Sun Inn again run by the Titanic Brewery that's what was going to happen.

We've had a few other attempts, I think the Shrew was one? Not that they have to be in a pub, but for some reason we prefer Indian above all else here.
Yes, I'd forgotten about that one.
It's whatever premises that are going cheap enough that will be used.
And I particularly like Indian, and Nepalese, food.

Stafford people don't like spending money on food, that is a fact given some of the higher priced places have really struggled. Indian food is generally at the lower end of the price range.

Given the success of The Post House this may start to change...

But will this Post House succeed after it failed before ?
And the other venues offering 'pre Theatre deals' well beyond the pocket of many of us ?
Just because Indian food is at the lower end of the price range doesn't mean it's any worse quality. They're just more efficient.

Don't put words into my mouth, I love a good curry.

I think the pre-theatre deals are very reasonable value. It's cheaper than the ticket to the theatre. But then I don't spend all my money on pints (god forbid I did, as I wouldn't be welcome in most of those pubs...)

I have this persistent image of landlords shouting "You're barred!", as you enter, and all the pubmen hiding in the Gents "after what happened last time"...

Price does come into it, of course, but places start and fail for many reasons - two Mexicans, the Greek and a couple(?) of Spanish places, none lasted long - but, the Turkish place seems set fair, despite the difficult times that followed its opening.

Some proprietors even avoid being at the top or bottom of the market, as the clientele at both ends come with their own special difficulties, sometimes.

Yep, the landlords would probably be shouting at me to get back to Candid with my weird beer tastes.

Of course price comes into it, but atmosphere, service, quality of food etc. also does.

The Turkish or the Nepalese are always my go to restaurants, but sometimes you want something different.

How do you explain Maccy D's then?

They're at the lower end of the price range and absolutely crap, unless you've got a hangover of course :)

Seven Stars also does well and the Swan, though we'll see how it's new ownership affects things in due course.

Many customers want, or need, the lower end of the price range.
They have two choices, high quality Indian food or "absolutely crap" American burgers and it wouldn't do for us all to like the same.
