Right ... (Rolls up sleeves)
I was born and raised on a council tip. I had to hop 20 miles to school and then hop 20 miles back on my right leg because we were so short of food I'd had to eat my left leg.
However, I have developed almost Samurai like skills with a tin opener. :P
You didnt walk 20 miles through 10ft of snow, uphill, to the local mine, work 16 hours then glass collection for 4 hours

Frost on the inside of single glazed windows🤔 took a build up of courage to brave the cold to get to the bathroom to have a cold shower😂 if you tell kids today they can't understand how we didn't have central heating and double glazing

I hate to break it to you but I’m from a single parent household. My siblings and I grew up in council housing (with a brief stint in a refuge) and mum always had some kind of job throughout our childhoods.

I do love how people judge others based on their perceptions of what’s achievable if you’re poor or if you’re not.
So true. When I first left home as a teenager my understanding of cooking was beanfeasts and fray bentos pies😂 even though I had parents that cooked very healthy meals for me most nights even though they were running their own business. It's only as I've got older and grown to love food that I have self taught myself to cook. Then with the addition of a family you learn to cook the healthiest meals possible on the leanest budget possible which isn't frozen pre prepared food which proves to be far more expensive and unhealthy.
As a family we do a meal planner for the week and make a shopping list for those meals and eat before we shop so as not to shop while hungry. Sounds silly but we were saving £100's a year doing this way before it was a programme on the telly.

You only achieved 1st Dan with a tin opener if you could open a tin of corned beef with a tin opener when the key snapped off😂

Tesco petrol/diesel station is closed until mid Oct for a refurb....
I went to fill up on Monday and found it closed. Apparently there were signs in the kiosk to say it was closing but they must have been tiny because I didn't see them on my numerous visits there.

I asked my sister who works at Tesco about it and she said that the closure signage wasn't very obvious.

Looking on Street View, there's so many signs/adverts/banners that a new one would be easy to miss.

It's like a newspaper website in physical form.

I was under the impression that most schools taught cookery at KS3 and that it is an option in many schools at KS4 nowadays.
By 'under the impression that', you mean 'know that', yes? - more to the point, @gilesjuk , when were you last, or was someone you know closely last, at school?

Because yr 7 & 8 it is compulsory - and it is even called Food Tech, which presumably warms you - and can be taken as a GCSE.

Why do the people who seem so keen to denigrate current schooling seem always to be those that are so far distant from any actual contact with it?
