Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

I thought that land had been given planning permission for 7 houses.
I’m sure that I remember looking at the plans a while back, although I can’t find them anywhere online now.

I heard they didn't get it, so the guy who bought the land is moving their SIM centre to it. They're currently at Landywood. The setup is okay but the kit doesn't always pick up the ball.

I‘ve found it. He did get planning permission so he must have just changed his mind.
I can’t see anything on South Staffs Planning applications relating to a golf range though?

Stafford Town Center Lloyds Bank to close in August for 4 weeks due to refurbishment
The Lloyds Bank at Market Square is due to close on 23rd August until Thursday 19th September. Work has recently been completed on the roof, with scaffolding being taken down this week.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group wrote:
"We’re investing in our Stafford branch and, once the planned refurbishment is complete in mid September, customers will have access to a ‘Touchdown Table’ for informal chats, alongside private meeting spaces, ATMs and other banking services"

I didn't know where to post this so I thought I'd drop it here .... There's been a chap in a security guard outfit sat in market square at all hours, he's even here right now (Sunday evening). Does anyone know what his purpose is ?

I used to think he was for Boots but I've never seen him inside there so I assume that's not the case

I told him last night it's ridiculous he's out there on his own , especially on a Saturday night when drunks are about , told him if he gets attacked, he's pretty much on his own, as the response team will be hours away. Apparently he's employed by Barclays, for like 12 hours a day , and I assume there's another guy on the other half of the day.

Guess someone was attacked next to the cash machine, and that's there answer, which is equally ridiculous.

managed to wade through the documents and it's for an above-ground pool 20m x 8m
Interesting!

I assume it’ll be available for leisure swims at points too, I doubt there’s enough people to warrant classes every single day.

Probably the best use for the unit to avoid having to put AC in too - you want it to be crazy hot in there. The only issue comes in the winter.

They seem to be using small private pools in Walton and rugeley, and Walton high.

This would probably be a dedicated pool which would replace the private pools.

Doubt it, but it would be good if it was.

20x8 m is hardly worth swimming in if you’re full sized

Chance to comment on center demolition as part of Stafford transformation

Guildhall Shopping Centre in Stafford

Planning Ref:
24/39369/FUL

Plans have been submitted to demolish part of the Guildhall Shopping Center in Stafford.
Stafford Borough Council bought the ailing shopping center, using money secured from the government, to help speed up transformation of the town.
Now a planning application has been submitted for the ‘partial demolition’ of the center and adjoining multi-storey car park - while retaining the attractive historic frontage of the building.
The work will prepare the site for a future developer to create a new commercial and residential offer in the center of the town. An application for the proposed business and homes scheme is expected to be submitted over the next 12 months.
The shopping center comprises 38 business units, an indoor market, and the 255-space car park - which was shut due to safety concerns.
The borough council is looking for contractors to take on the preparatory demolition work - but because of the huge scale of the redevelopment of the site they said they would be looking for a future development partner.
A covering letter as part of the planning application states: “The current proposals involve the demolition of part of the vacant shopping center, apart from the buildings on the eastern frontage along Greengate Street and the existing and occupied buildings at Market Square which are to be retained.
“The commercial buildings along Crabbery Street, along with the commercial buildings fronting St Mary’s Grove do not form part of this application and as such will also be retained.”
Those buildings retained on Crabbery Street will be improved to encourage individual outlets to set up in the town center - with the offices being kept for businesses that front St Mary’s Grove also being enhanced.
The application is available to view via the council’s website Planning Public Access | Stafford Borough Council (staffordbc.gov.uk). As part of the planning process people will have the opportunity to give views on the application.

Council Deputy Leader, Rob Kenney, who has responsibility for the town center, said the transformation of the town was the council’s top priority and this was another step towards their vision for the area.
He said: “We purchased the Guildhall to speed up the pace of major regeneration of the High Street - and I am very pleased to see this application has been submitted to help us move forward with our plans.
“We want residents to be proud of their county town, we want visitors to come and shop, we want people to socialise and spend time using hospitality venues, and we want businesses to invest.”
The front of the shopping center sits at the foot of the refurbished Market Square in the heart of the town and adjacent to the derelict Co-op department store - which the council are planning to refurbish with a mix of retail, food court, and residential offer.
Council leader, Aidan Godfrey, said “The Guildhall and Co-op are huge initiatives but they are not standalone schemes. They are part of ‘Project Stafford.’ We completed the Market Square last year, work will be starting soon on improving the entrance and approach to the railway station - and there is the ongoing work to regenerate the underutilised land behind the station with exciting proposals for a hotel, multi-storey car park and homes.”
Significant investment has been made in the county town and includes other projects such as the Staffordshire History Center and the £22.5m Institute of Technology for Stafford College.
