Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
It's a shame it isn't in Walton although I doubt the residents there would like a load of bikers in the area.

My guess is that the old garage will be knocked down and it'll become housing,.
It is indeed a great shame there isn't going to be one in Walton. There isn't even a decent one nearby. I use the one in Chester for my Hondas. Shrewsbury would be much more convenient but the dealership is poor.

I think it will reopen as a used car outlet for WR Davies.

Fone Junction, and Vapers lounge have both reopened under new management.

Town was alright yesterday, walked through the Guildhall and not a soul in there, bet the remaining tenants are on the look out for empty retail units in town if they're staying in Stafford.

Huh… some units in the Guildhall are up for let? Did something change with the plans?

(Not sure if this is boom or ghost town stuff really…)

Hasn't the centre got to be filled one way or another soon anyway as business rates are payable regardless if it's let soon ? , Can see a lot of these landlords going bust. It's also why I guess there's a lot of action with empty units in the town just being let.

Scope, the old Tom's burgers , the old mad hatters tea place, the old oatcakes and milkshake, fone junction, accessorize and the old Edinburgh Woollen Mill have all sprung to life recently.

I'd say the Guildhall is heading for a full on repossession now as the rates cripple the place, unless the owners have a money pit.

Have you seen the sh*te in the window of Edinburgh Woolen Mill ? It doesn't look like springing to life to me!!

You need to remember that if a landlord let's a shop to a charity it stops being liable for business rates. This way the landlord can still advertise the shop in the hope that they get a longer term tenant. If the charity shop leaves before then, the landlord starts the 6 week business rate exemption.

Interesting to note that landlords can gain an exemption from business rates if a vacant property is in such a state it can not be commercially let - that's the Co-op Department Store sorted !

Is there any way of finding out what properties in town are claiming this exemption ?

Does that still apply under the new rule coming in about forcing landlords to let units or they’ll go to a letting auction..?

Don't you just let it to a mate for a week and restart the process? Open a popup goldfish tanning salon, say it weirdly didn't work out, oh well at least you tried.

Do we really need so many car garages in one area though ? You'd have thought they'd have done something different.

I've also noticed National Tyres & autocentre, are now part of the Halfords group too, I mean how long are they going to keep the two seeing as they're literally within walking distance from each other.

That's a former garage I saw early last month.
But do we really need a third Wetherspoons in Stafford ?
I think not.
