Has anyone actually had a charge for doing that, and had to pay it ?
A near miss here.

The only thing worse is the parking restrictions on service station car parks. They're always warning people not to drive tired but if you stop for some rest and go over 2 hours you pay a lot for that sleep! They're in the middle of nowhere too, so why is that land deemed so valuable as to need charges? it's pure greed.

A man has died following an incident on the M6 this afternoon. Staffordshire Police were called to reports of a sudden death on the northbound carriageway at junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent South at 4pm today (October 20).

The death led to the closure of the motorway in both directions between junction 14 for Stafford and junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent. The southbound carriageway reopened at 4.30pm.

But Staffordshire Police and National Highways have confirmed that the northbound carriageway will remain closed for 'some time'.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called at 4pm to reports of the sudden death of a man on the northbound side at Junction 15 of the M6. Police officers are at the scene and the northbound side will remain closed for some time. A diversion is in place."

West Midlands Ambulance Service says nothing could be done to save the man.

A spokesman said: "We were called to reports of concern for a patient’s welfare on the northbound carriageway of the M6 at 3.57pm.

"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one male patient, who sadly it quickly became apparent, nothing could be done to save and was confirmed dead at the scene."

Drivers heading north along the M6 are being diverted off the motorway at junction 14 and onto the A34. From there they are being told to continue along the A34 northbound until the junction with the A500 at Hanford.

Then take the exit to the A500 westbound and continue to the M6 junction 15. To stick to the diversion route drivers are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs.

I note that the lane markings at the Lammascote entrance to the middle Queensway island are now arranged how they should have been all the time, but, in true Stafford fashion, half the people are still driving to the old arrangement.

Now.

How they were.

It may have been changed a while ago, I haven't been there much lately.

It’s been like that since the council did the work on the road past the shopping centre.

Yet still no markings on the first roundabout (if you are on the way up the hill) at the top of Radford Bank. Most people get it right, but some use the left lane to carry on down the A34.

The lanes were marked in the past - Lichfield and Cannock - but not in Street View times, it seems - so pre-2009, at least.

I remember it, because it looked a bit odd, if you were walking up the hill - they split the words and placed the first part below the second, so that a driver would see them in that order, I suppose.

A513 | A34 would be better than nothing.

When you look at the geometry on Google maps the A34 is straight over but slightly to the right and everything else is left. But the second roundabout is right before you in seconds. People often get it wrong, left lane then going on the A34. Or left lane and staying left to go onto Weeping Cross.
