It's staggering what some people think is an acceptable condition for a tyre in winter.... This was a front one....

This is a brand new, perfectly road legal tyre, even in the snow...

Mainly used for lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife and how often do you see a Porsche 911 on the road when it has snowed...

More chance of seeing these on UK roads in not so optimal weather.

I've seen people driving around on completely bald tyres with no visible tread at all in Stafford.

Cup 2s are OEM on many cars now, most of which never go anywhere near the Nürburgring. It's a marketing thing and you'd be amazed how many people are quite happy to use them in crap weather conditions. Nothing to do with the morons who drive round on completely bald tyres.

Both lots are morons, in my opinion.

The tread is only really to stop aquaplaning though. The grooves reduce grip, hence why racing tyres are slick until it rains. Of course, worn tyres will be thinner and prone to failure. I worked with a guy whose front wheel bearing was on the way out and his tyre burst on the way back from a trip out to a shopping centre due to excessive wear on the tyre edge. We had to change the tyre to get back to work.

You posted a photo of the Cup 2 R though. 😉 😉

Cup 2 has the same pattern but less usable tread when new and is a different compound (some of them have two different compounds across the tyre width).

Staffordshire County Council don't, as there is nothing on their website about it. Perhaps you've got to sign up to get the information.

The Sainsbury’s car park is in chaos once again, the machine near the store (the only one that takes coin) isn’t working so a fifteen minute queue formed at the further away card only one, with the world’s worse user interface given it requires a grand total of 2-4 buttons out of the 15-20 it has to operate it.

And naturally there was a poster right next to it about free parking yesterday and on the 24th just to irritate us all.

Incidentally I don’t think anyone actually checks the cars during the evenings and weekends… I’ve not once come back to a Sentry alert of an attendant checking for my ticket

Seen that machine in many places. Machines where you press "Card payment" then have to then increase the payment amount in steps. I can only assume it's to avoid the expense of a numeric keypad or to avoid people typing in £150 instead of £1.50.

To be honest I wouldn't have known that if you hadn't said. Personally, on road cars I use Pilot Sport 4s. On my track car Nankang AR-1s and the car is trailered to events.
