If you want that, go live on Crescent Road etc. Or live in a cul de sac, like me 😉.

So the lives and safety of poor people who don't live in cul de sacs don't matter? Not everyone has a choice where they live or can afford to live in a cul de sac but if you are the type of selfish tw*t that lives in a cul de sac I think I'll swerve moving to one. Give me poor people who care for others any day of the week

Where did you get that from? I’ve not justified people speeding or to a standard that is against the law. I’ve said I think it’s perfectly acceptable for drivers to use the roads available to them.

You said move to a cul de sac if we don't like people using our road as a race track to avoid a few mins in a queue on the main road. And I said not everyone has that option. You think it's OK to ruin the lives of residents so drivers can save a few mins even if the road they chose to use isnt designed to take even responsible traffic in the volumes being inflicted by selfish drivers cutting through on volume. I don't. And neither does @littleme because drivers rat running through don't drive respectfully or responsibly as both she and I can attest.

If people driving down the road is ruining your life you need to seek professional help.

Side roads are available to all road users but the majority of the time they won’t be used as they’re not the most direct or quickest. At peak times or when there’s road works people using the side roads take pressure off main roads and speed up overall traffic flow.

I guess idling cars on main roads which actually is detrimental to health is ok though, because you don’t live on a main road.

Actually I’m a YIMBY. More roads, more houses, more railway etc. it’s NIMBY attitudes that are stifling growth and making homes unaffordable for many.

I lived off Corporation Street for 6 years. I didn’t have a drive, I experienced cars using the road as a cut through and I never had a problem with it and I had to face the ‘awful’ prospect of not being able to park outside of my house (another entitlement I’ve always found funny when there’s no restrictions on parking). It didn’t bother me because I do the same thing, because it didn’t result in me sat wasting time in stationary traffic and the roads are there for cars anyway.

Talking about speeding is a different argument. Drivers using the roads should do so safely and responsibly and I hope whoever crashed into the cars in the circumstances you describe face appropriate consequences.
Did you hav your car written off because of those drivers though? I did, my disabled neighbour has twice in 7 months? I've no objection to people using this road, but sensibly and bareing in mind it's a blind corner...most if the day it's fine, but at school dropping off/picking up time it's become a nightmare. We have black ice on our road/corner even when there's no ice in other rds....it's a nigtmare, it really is. Untill this winter I've spent most of the night half awake waiting for the noise of a crash.....yes that my problem, but it shouldn't happen.

In my opinion the speed limit on side roads should be reduced. Maybe to 15mph?

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was having a personal go at you, I don't mean to, but if drivers observed basic traffic laws, had more consideration, or had had their cars hit by passing motorists , then they would understand.

I have my list of favourite sideroads to utilise to improve the efficiency of my journey to work in certain emergency scenarios. I use them sparingly. I know which ones work & which don't. It is often refreshing to view unseen areas of Stafford & good for the soul.

When it's not safe to get your child out of the car seat because you are worried a speeding driver will take the car door off, you out, or even hit your child, or you get a mouthful of abuse that can cause major anxiety. It is life ruining and I don't need professional help.

The whole point of my orginal post was that its not taking thr pressure of the main roads. Revisit the image I posted.

Actually I think you'll find I'm anti cars full stop. We should be investing in a decent public transport and walking and cycling network. But as you were

Key words there.....emergency scenarios, sparingly, which ones work and which ones dont, refreshing.

Take note @DoggedWalker .....a responsible driver.

Quite right, Alliance Street is one of my favourites. Sometimes use it for a bit of variety on my commute.
Seriously....you all need to stop this witch hunt. It's not just Alliance Street, it's lots of roads, all of you grow up, your adults, have some respect.

Yes I'm wagging my finger at you. 🤔🤔🤔

Today for some reason both A513 Beaconside and a34 towards Redhill were closed in both directions With traffic being diverted via a34 south towards Stafford. Stone road was like a carpark with a 26 minutes delay the sat nav correctly rerouted me through numerous streets from Redhill road before exiting at alliance st. Saving 19 minutes. I genuinely can't see anybody achieving 40mph down that street 20 is plenty fast enough with some sections needing less speed than that with the speed humps and double parked cars. If people are genuinely driving at more than double what most consider a safe speed that should surely come under dangerous driving and delt with appropriately.

It's totally possible to hit 60. It's happening as I write. No one deals with anything. If it was a street populated by Tory voters and rich people it would have been shut long before now, see Lancaster / Windsor Road for evidence.

Glad your 19 minutes was more important than the quality of people's lives, well done you.

There's a certain irony there as Windsor Rd is in an independent ward, whereas Alliance Street is in a conservative ward.

So you voted for it!

Just like the much needed Eastern Distributor Road being cancelled because it would bring traffic near to the posh houses in Baswich Lane.

Hang on. Whilst I understand your point about dangerous/speeding drivers using Alliance Street or similar streets, you cannot deny law abiding drivers from using a public highway.

@cj1's post doesn't say he/she was speeding so what is wrong in saving time and causing less pollution by taking a different route?

Or have I got it wrong and Alliance Street should be a local street for local people?
