They have finally filled in the chasm at the Weston road crossroads, the one right at the lights on your left going towards Asda

Frankly I’m considering reevaluating my lack of belief in a higher power

Having had a couple of weeks commuting to Willenhall I've come to the conclusion that on the four lane section of M6 south of Stafford lane 3 has become the new lane 2 for lane hoggers. The tarmac in lane 1 will last forever.

Totally agree. People are idiots. I make my point by joyfully travelling up lane 1 undertaking them all. Acc to a policeman friend, so long as I don't speed up to undertake them I'm not breaking the rules. That or get reet close and flash them to move over....

*only works if they aren't looking at their phone which many are

I was pulled up by a police car on the M6 just after J15 for remaining in the inside lane and passing other drivers in the other two lanes.

I pointed out to the copper that the Highway Code says something like you are allowed to undertake vehicles on your outside if your lane of traffic is traveling faster.

The other copper laughed his head off and pulled his mate away saying that I was right and they couldn't do me for it.

Wow that was a rare sight seeing a marked police car on the motorway. (assumed it was ?)

"Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake."

That's the wording I was trying to think of.

Yes if you fly down the inside then its likely an undue care charge if caught (would be very rare nowadays), but if you are simply maintaining your speed and the other lane(s) slows then no charge can be bought (a crown court case in the 80's stated that)

The main issue is the other lanes aren't moving slower, not in general, just the twerps who have no idea they should be in the inside lane are sitting going too slow in lanes 2/3/4

I regularly cruise up the inside lane doing 70 undertaking people sat in lane 4 while there is no traffic in lanes 2 and 3.

The A34 stone road going out of town towards the Redhill roundabout.
Weird to watch the first lane won't allow people to merge from the right lane but are happy letting them in from crab lane, so you see people using the parallel road as a filter lane.

Spent more years than I care to remember in the inside lane (now called lane 1) in an artic but now I do not often go there as it is better to stay in lane 2 as most will never look ahead and anticipate you need to pull out & even if they do will often close the gap (instead of a moments ease off) to let you out.
Unfortunately it will not improve as nowadays the roads are controlled by cameras who are only primed for money generating issues.

I always anticipate lorries and cars on inside lane pulling out , quite often without indicating . and hold back to play safe and let them out if I haven't got a clear escape route into the next lane. Quite often HGV's pull into fast lane late at night as well to get past slower moving traffic. Never used to get that years ago , but nowadays seems anything goes...

(I wanted to take my hgv class 1 in the 70's but my parents were against it so wouldn't lend me the money. Not so sure I'd like it nowadays though with all the restrictions and constant traffic jams. Accidents used to be a rarity in those days.)

Knights of the road... NOT.

Lorry drivers like to portray themselves as being real professionals and superior to all other road users. Truth is, that is very far from the reality. At the very least theyre as bad as the rest, the difference being that they have 44 tons to do far more bullying or damage with.

Had to drive down to BHX at 7pm and back at about 9pm the other day… Even then there were so many HGVs and it was all utter chaos

Temporary lights at the Sandon Road/Astonfields junction. Looks like the path opposite the garage is being dug up. Maybe looking for the plug to drain away the flood water.
