If you reversed parked you would of had a better view of approaching traffic but you didn't. Just because you didn't see the other vehicle doesn't mean it wasn't there. You parked in a manner that made it difficult to check for cross traffic or make effective observations whilst exiting the space. Then came to a public forum to complain about another vehicle even including there number plate. At no point did you stop to think what could I have done differently or What can I do to stop similar happening in future?"

Not sure if you are the other driver @cj1 or the reverse parking police?

I also had a very similar experience and I agree with @c0tt0nt0p that if you start reversing out with no traffic coming then oncoming traffic should give way if you are a considerable way through the manoeuvre.

Also if you look through the neighbouring car windows, as I did, you can check if there are any approaching vehicles or pedestrians.

In my case the approaching car deliberately steered into what would have been the oncoming side of the car park at speed. If anything had come around the last car he would have hit it head on.

Finally we do have a thread called something like "Examples of poor driving" that has loads of these sorts of examples so I'm not sure what your gripe is to be honest.

So how do you look through vans or cars with tinted windows? How many cars can you see through? Would you see a small child walking along?
If there is room for the car to pass then still fairly early on in the reverse so should give way. Although not denying it is polite to give way and allow vehicle to complete their maneuver.
Cotton top is trying to make out they are 100% in the right and did absolutelynothing to contribute to said incident.
The original complaint was about the corsa not giving way but good drivers know "priority" is given never taken. But from what was said on the original post it was cotton top that should give way as there was still space to pass.
Why has this been posted in this unrelated thread there are better threads out there if they really feel the need to post.
Perhaps cotton top would benefit from watching some of Ashley Neal's driver education videos on youtube rather than post about there near misses in the wrong thread. Perhaps cotton top and the Corsa driver could watch them together. As looking at the original it's another case of 2 drivers who both could of done better.

I do have a 'reversing in' preference, but I've just measured the situation in my fairly ordinary car and I find that, when sitting normally, my eyes are actually nearer the rear of the car than the front - although, of course, it is possible to lean forward a bit to counteract that situation.

This may apply to many modern cars.

I didn't say you could see through neighbouring cars in every instance, did I?

Just because there is room for a car to pass (on the wrong side of the direction of traffic in my case) doesn't mean they have right of way. How do they know the reversing driver has even seen them?

Worse still if a car in the spaces behind me had started to move out of their space the idiot driver would have ploughed straight into them at the speed he was going and how close he was to those cars.

Does Ashley Neal drive a Corsa by any chance?

We have to reverse into spaces at the office, and get in trouble if we don't. Although nowadays you can quite often just drive through to the neighbouring space. It's helped my reverse parking no end!

One of the benefits can be that rapid evacuation is a lot quicker, if things are already pointing the right way. Also, manoeuvring a car with a cold engine to back it out of a space is a bit more wasteful than nosing it out and driving off. And you can reverse into a tighter space than you can nose into. Apart from the aggro of idiots driving up behind me, it is my preferred method.

Sometimes, though, people do need to leave the back of the car accessible for loading, of course.

The solution does exist.

So sometimes you just blakout without knowing if it's safe to do so?
How do they know the reversing driver has even seen them?
So reversing blind could be dangerous?
Worse still if a car in the spaces behind me had started to move out of their space the idiot driver would have ploughed straight into them
So again reversing without checking it's safe could be dangerous?
the speed he was going and how close he was to those cars.
A driver going too fast does not remove your responsibility to operate your vehicle safely. Good driver fixes the mistakes of the bad.
Just because there is room for a car to pass (on the wrong side of the direction of traffic in my case) doesn't mean they have right of way.
Nobody has "right of way" but a car exiting a parking bay should not force other vehicles to change speed or direction they should wait until it's clear/safe to do so.

No, Tesla and BMW but he is a fully trained driver instructor who also teaches other driver instructors to be instructors.

Stop talking complete and utter bollocks @cj1.

You obviously aren't understanding the situation I am trying to explain and assuming that I am as crap a driver as you obviously are.

All I'm saying it's better for complete all-round observations to reverse in and drive out. If you choose to reverse out you should stop and wait for other road users to pass includes pedestrians or be sure they are giving way for you to complete your reverse. You may be required to stop at any point in the exercise to allow other road users pass. Failure to do this on test would result in a fail.

In a supermarket carpark I always drive straight in so it's easier to fill the boot with the shopping.

The reverse camera and sensors make reversing easier but you still have to watch out for the idiots that drive around you as you are halfway out.

Correct you may need to stop at any point to allow people past. Nice people will wait for you but can't rely on politeness you must be ready to stop.

If only that was all you were saying but it wasn't was it?

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
People generally drive too fast in car parks which is why it is often quite fraught reversing out of parking spots. Everyone must have had a near-miss at some point in their driving life. I know I have had a few over the years.

Didn't know where to post this, but if you're having to come to Stafford County NHS, the bottom car park (car park C) has the barrier removed so it's free to park. Amazing so many people don't notice and drive on past to park in one of the others !!

To drag this thread back towards its intended topic. Appears very heavy traffic towards the Greyfriars roundabout if travelling into town. Presumably more roadworks at the Halfords junction?
