I know which way I'd go and it wouldn't be along the A34.
Google Maps didn't spot the possible connection to the Isabel Trail at the railway bridge, which is the way I would go. You could save the time for the extra distance in the time you would save trying to cross roads.

That's the way we would go.

Now, I would NOT walk down there on my own. My friend's husband has been threatened on the trail, and a bloke tried to lure me down there last year, saying he needed to use my phone, but backing further and further into bushes....

I'm currently constantly telling the minime fir going down their too (as you were the last person who spotted her down there @Gramaisc ...she was well & truly told off, believe me!)

You don't walk down there much then. Never seen anyone like that when I've been there in daylight hours.
Is you a girly though?

Admitidly, the guy who tried to lure me down there was early evening, just going dark ....he was filthy dirty, no shoes, looked like he'd come off his bike...I was walking on stone rd, asked me if he could use my phone to get help...stupidly I said yes, but i wouldn't let him hold my phone, I dialed the number he said on speaker....all the time he was backing into the bushes...I stupidly followed ....untill he gave me a 3rd number to call and I realised how far away I was from stone rd & people......I told him my daughter was waiting for me & ran.....

Had that happend to my daughter I would have been furious....told her how silly she was for trying to help.....but that's what you do. She told me how stupid I was......I was.

Next day I found the police had been called to my workplace for what sounded like the very same person , who had mugged someone.

My friend's husband, (55, stocky bloke) was pulled of his bike, threatend for the bike, mobile & money in the middle of the afternoon. Let's say the thief didn't get any of those things........

Because? My understanding is each community would be able to get whatever they need within a 15min walk or cycle? They aren't open prisons, just a way of reducing the need to drive. What sounds horrific in that?

I can't get to a supermarket in 15 minutes (unless it's the middle of the night and Newport Road traffic lights are with me).
I think @Lucy would struggle to walk or cycle to ANY shop within 15 mins. Driving could be close with the state of the lanes around there.
It’s s shame we don’t all live in Alliance Street.

Yes, I remember you telling me. I don't go near the Isabel trail if I can help it, unless someone is with me.
Youngest will go for a walk/bike ride at 3am if he's bored. I have used my Mum voice on him several times because of this.

On the subject of walking to the shops. I have a slight disability myself. And sometimes struggle to do the 5 minute walk to Sainsburys, then the hours walk round the shop. (I do my social life in that place), then it takes me about 10 minutes to walk back if I have heavy shopping. My kids aren't always around to help me.
I've gone over in the car sometimes, and then parking in the delivery bit outside the Indian restaurant to unload, that is only if there is no-one parked there when I get back. Otherwise, I find somewhere on the estate and do the unloading in several trips.

15 mins there is no problem, but 15 mins back with a weeks heavy shopping is a completely different thing.

When the carer was made redundant, money was tight, we had to sell our cars, when shopping, we walked the 25 min (for me, I have a disability of sorts) down the lines to Lidl, did the shop, 1 big bag to carry each, and one we carried between us, holding a handle each....it's no joke....if you're fit and able you can shop daily, but if not you're reliant on walking, buses or taxis (neither of which we could afford) it's an absolute joke.
But how good a treat was a packet of custard creams if we had enough change left 🤔 people think that the hard times they may be experiencing now are a personal attack by government/society and are missing the bigger point... People of all backgrounds will at some point experience a time in life of hardship. The greatest thing, I think, you can do at this moment is realise that these will be the times you look back on and smile about once you get back to better times. After all without hard times you wouldn't appreciate the good times.

So will SBC be cancelling the markets in market Square? Or do all the traders they sell stalls to come from a 15 minute walking radius? Like I said it would be the final nail in Staffords retail coffin.

It's endlessly fascinating that whenever a 'radical' proposal is put forth, the 'outlier' narrative is the first to find foothold.

But what about...

... what about what? the x% of people who will be inconvenienced by this?

If x is ≤ not many people, are we to just give up?

I don't think that anybody who has ^above contributed has actually looked at what the idea encompasses.
