Stafford Vets.

Can anyone here recommend a decent vet? Any recommendation would be welcome but ideally looking for a vet that is good with small mammals- our giant rabbit needs a mixy jab and his balls chopping off!

I use donnachie and townley on eastgate street. there is parking outside but it is only half an hour. usually enough though I've found. They are really nice there and always listen and dont make me feel like a crazy cat lady. I had to take my cat there recently and just said "he's lost his doodliness" (his name is Doodle) and they knew exactly what I meant and fussed over him and made him all better (he was actually a very poorly little cat). They understand that owners generally can pick up on the little changes in a pet's behaviour and listen to you - I've known other vets who just dismiss it if you say there is something not quite right... and I've never cried at the bills either - they have alwyas been very reasonable I've felt! they often dont charge for the vet's time - just the drugs or whatever if it's a flying visit. I fostered an abandoned cat a few months ago and they just charged for the worming tablets and claw clippings etc nothing else.

sorry I really like them there!

I'd recommend the island aswell. I am a bit biased as I do a lot of work for them but it means I know the owners / staff and how things are run and know they don't rip people off and do their best for the animals. I've got my dog in on Thursday to have his balls off.

With all the time that you spend in there I thought that you might have picked up some of the technical terminology.

I took my kitten to donnachie and townley the other day and they were good, you can just turn up (if registered) between certain hours (I think its 930-10 then 5-630) which is good. They did have an offer on microchipping as well. I did like vets 4 pets when I took my other cat there a few months ago although I found it was quite expensive so will probably stick to donnachie and townley now.

also, I would ask for a price for everything before its done! I wouldnt say no to treatment if one of my cats was ill, but was told it would be £25 check up at vets4pets, so was very surprised after the check up, 1 antibiotic injection and 1 ear clean later when I went to pay and it was £80!! especially since I took her in as a stray only a few weeks earlier!

i can recommend island vet, mr Mundell is so good with the animals and my two dogs love him. they also have a great scheme where you pay £15 a month (for dogs not sure if it differnet price for different animas) and it includes almost everthing, the only thing we pay for is flea treatment and we get it at a discount on it too

We used to use Donnachie and Townley for our cats. They were always very gentle with the animals and friendly with the owners. We had four cats (two at a time) that, unfortunately, all died very young. I think the eldest lived to about 3. They were always very supportive when we went there when they were ill, and especially when we had to have them put to sleep. They said we had been very unlucky.

Anyway, that was a few years ago and we have recently taken the plunge and had two more. Touch wood they are healthy and doing well. For convenience we used VETS4PETS for their first jabs and have them "done". Or, for one of them, I believe the current term used here is "have his balls chopped off". Don't know the cost for that one, I had to let the missus take him. I couldn't look him in the eyes and take him for that!

The vets we have seen at VETS4PETS were also very gentle with the cats and asked us if we had any concerns.

The good thing about Donnachie and Townley is you could just drop in without an appointment although, with us both working we would struggle to make the 6.30pm close. You have to make an appointment at VETS4PETS although they are open 'til 7pm.
