Hmm, so we spoke to our vet, Parkhouse, regarding prescriptions and cost of drugs. We asked if there was anyway we could have a three month prescription, or any movement on the cost of drugs as our dog has three different kinds for his illness that surfaced prior to his insurance kicking in. Vet said no. No movement. OK. We said with heavy heart we will have to move our three to a different vets that will give us a 3 month prescription and therefore we will be able to get our dogs medication online. Our three animals all live with us, but we also pay for our daughters elderly dogs treatment, so we stressed he will remain at Parkhouse. Last night he called us personally to tell us it was for the best that my daughters dog also went to the other vets, we stressed that this dog didn't live with us. He would not move.
Bit disappointed to be honest as we were forced to move for financial reasons and not through quality of care but feel it's very petty indeed to effectively kick our daughters dog off his books too.
That's such a shame, & it does seem that he's cutting his nose of to spite his face.

Yes, he is entitled to do that, but seems petty. Weirdly the older dog has ongoing medication that is a considerable amount each month, seems crazy that he would do away with that.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I have to give my dog drops for glaucoma and was getting a monthly prescription. I asked my vet for a three month prescription and their answer was "yes, no problem". Donnachie & Townley on Eastgate Street.

Took Bee to Parkhouse yesterday for her monthly Librella jab for her back condition and asked Ben to check her because she's been panting a lot and drinking loads.

She's had a scan today and they've found lumps in her glands likely to be cancerous pending further analysis of her blood tests.

She's 12 coming on 13 and probably won't make it through an op but won't last more than 3 to 6 months without one.

She's still sprightly, happy, coherent, continent and playful if a little immobile.

Toughest decision of my life coming up in the next few days/weeks, I think.

Oh I'm so sorry.

She's absolutely in the best hands there though. I had to go a couple of times last week and Nick and Ben were amazing.

The Island Vets seem to be quite well regarded - and you can usually park directly outside, which might help to reduce the anxiety levels..
I wouldn’t touch island vets with somebody else’s barge pole!

They mislabelled some medication for my mums cat resulting in a fatal overdose being given, they then sent a hefty invoice for care and euthanasia that followed, when my mum told them where they could go with the bill they then instigated legal action against my parents to bully payment for treatment required because of their mistake that killed a much love family pet.

There are a number of decent vets in Stafford and surrounds. Island Vets is not one of them.

I have told my story regarding Parkhouse and as a result, never again.

It's just over a year since I took my 15 year old long dog to be put to sleep :( It was the right time but it seemed like he would go on forever at one point. So I know how it feels.

I go to Park House myself. One of my previous dogs went to Island and I just had anxiety about finding a parking space every time I went there. The last straw for me was when they were going to phone me about some medicine for my dog (pain killers) and they didn't call me up. A few weeks later I got a bill for them which I disputed as I'd never picked them up. My dog was coping okay with his arthritis at that point. No point giving them drugs if they don't need them.

Anyway, as soon as Park House moved to the old Lloyds Bank building it was a no brainer to give them a try. Been happy with their service and the prices are lower than Island too. If you get there too early you can walk the dog about outside too.

It's a hard one for sure, I'm sorry you're going through that mate.

Park House was the vets that refused a potentially life-saving appointment for my budgie at the weekend (which would have involved being advised over the phone by an avian specialist) because the practitioner on duty had a phobia of birds. I probably would still recommend them as the best vets in Stafford to people overall but obviously that was quite upsetting.

But nothing comes as bad as the experience I had with Island Vets years ago, definitely avoid them like the plague*. I took Charlie there because everywhere else was closed, they didn't have a clue so I told them what the other vets prescribed when he had a problem previously and the vet came out and asked me if I was sure about the dose because it is a tiny amount. When you're reassuring the vet that the antibiotics are correct, you know something is wrong... the icing on the cake was then when I picked up Charlie's cage to leave the room and had to ask him to open the door for me because he'd gotten his phone out and was checking emails whilst I was still standing there with both hands full. I'm not surprised at all to read some of the accounts above, sadly.

* obviously we now know that people do not avoid even the plague like the plague but you know what I mean

For balance, Island is always my recommendation to people l, they have nursed 4 dogs of mine and a cat. Exceptional treatment and bedside manner through good times, and sadly bad. I really can't speak higher of them, as with everything mileage may vary.
