Stafford Western Access Route.

I rode my bicycle along the pavement in both directions, stopping occasionally to take a drink from my flask whilst looking over the railings at the swamp below. The pavement seems particularly wide - are there plans to mark an official cycle path ?
It's joint use. Pedestrians and cyclists.

3rd close call for me today, bare in mind I live in Stafford and leave for work at around 6.25am....so this happens at 6.30am - 6.35am....probably more in rush hours. I may stop using it, the stress of waiting to see if a cars going to drive into the side of me, isn't worth the 3 mins it saves on my journey.
Again?? I feel your pain. Surely there aren't that many new commuters flocking to Stafford to reap the benefits of a 500 yard trip behind the back of the bowling alley?? And even then, you would have thought most drivers would know the difference between a green left arrow and a right arrow, even if they don't know the road layout that well?

I got through unscathed today...

You have to remember this is Stafford. We do things differently here...

I had to cross Chell Road using the crossing by the Lamb and there was no end of cars coming out of Doxey Road which I assume had been using the new road.

I walked home from the train station via the new road from Sainsburys to Halford and a very pleasant wide footpath it is I must say!

Made a little detour earlier and drove the stretch of road in both directions. Very little traffic and everything seems logically laid out lights wise. However, I can see where your average Stafford numpty, who got their licence free with a packet of cereal, would be able to make a monumental cockup when turning right into Foregate Street.

Trouble is I don't think a means of traffic management has yet been invented to prevent the terminally stupid, dead from the neck up, ignorant and proud of it, arsehole Stafford motorist, from being able to make a complete clusterfudge of it all.

They've had years to come up with a better system on the A34, joining the Island by the Toyota garage, and still arseholes can't help but get in the wrong lane, then try to kill you by driving into you, as you head towards Newport Road. Then have a go at you because THEY were in the wrong.

Until all traffic lights are equipped with snipers, trained to kill the motoring fuckwit in this town then there is no hope. I was driving in central London last week and the standard of driving was better than in Stafford.

Howdy folks. Sean Geraghty, the Senior Engineer has replied to me; in response to me sending him a link to the forum page:

Thank you for the email regarding the operation of the new traffic lights junction at A34 / Greyfriars / Madford Retail Park and Pans Road.

I will review a sample of comments being made on this matter and get back to you in due course.

I gather it's called Pans Road. What's the story behind that then? I was saying the council's response to me has, on occasion, been 'pants' and just thinking from the negative comments, perhaps it should be called Pants Road!

He didn't realise there was an issue prior to your message about our discussions on here? Worrying, very worrying :(

Pans (or Pan's) Drain is/was in that vicinity, it is presumably intended to reflect that association.

I am sure that the road into Sainsbury's once had a sign saying Panis Drive, but there's nothing on Street View - I feel that it was there in the 1990s.

You don't know which time zone he sent the email from. Work from home can be a wonderful thing.
Very true. I was just making a lame joke about lazy council workers thinking the afternoon is 'evening'. I'm allowed to make rubbish jokes because I also work for Staffordshire County Council and know lots of us actually work very hard.

I actually just read this explanation of the name via Facebook. What is a Pans/Pan's Drain?

Looking at all the above posts maybe the road should be slightly re-named: "Pandora's Box Way." :P

It can be seen here on this map - just north of the (old) Doxey Road.
