Staffordshire Newsletter reports 250 homes for Yarnfield

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
Just read this in the Newsletter online
http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....ubmitted-for-250-Yarnfield-homes-02052013.htm

I did think 'wow that's a lot of houses for a small place' until I read the article and it is in fact 21 houses.
Is the art of proof reading dead?
I think the Snoozletter has actually murdered the art of journalism, never mind proof reading. With the exception of some of the coverage for save the hospital its downward curve has been near vertical for some time.

Ah but what actually goes on there?
It's where they keep their wordmangler machine, recycling bins for used-up clichés, the Babbage abacus with missing beads (Stats & Maths our Forte)' and not forgetting the romper room for the teenage scribblers who work on the Editorials.

You forgot the Inappropriate Photo Gallery.

So, getting back to the thread subject, it is actually Swynnerton who are having 21 houses built on the old school site (as well as another small dev across the road from the converted water tower). But, yes, Yarnfield has a planning application in for a development of 249 (originally 300) houses on part of the old BT & Beatty Hall sites. Originally a different developer, now Barratt Homes. See www.barrattyarnfieldpark.co.uk - links to SBC Planning site.

Is it actually edited or published from Stafford still?
I'm quite a strong supporter of the Newsletter. It has had successive changes in ownership since it was last owned by the Hourd family, who were Stafford-based.

When it was still based in Mill Street all the typesetting was done upstairs - it hasn't been printed in Stafford for a long time. That said, it continues to be produced by a team of locally-employed reporters, designers, photographers and advertising staff, the majority of whom live in the area. It is also edited in Stafford, by someone who is passionately committed to the area. It is the only paper we now have, which has this level of local resources.

I think that the Newsletter, just like the Stafford Forum, plays a big part in making people feel part of the town. Times are tough in the newspaper industry and I would be really sorry to see this paper go.

Not so bothered about the picture they use, just interested in the update, as close to home. Quite like Newsletter, recently got a pic of Great Uncle from archives. Need to do more research though-wish they had a website like Staffspasttrack for their pics/old news items. Shame.
