Staffordshire University to move everything to Stoke?

I was under the impression that the sports centre/gym, was part owned with the Borough Council and that there was a joint user agreement between themselves and the uni.

I've been under the impression for sometime with many things and found that nothing is fo'sure.

I've emailed them to see what they have to say.

It's great for an investment though, heck I'd think about buying it myself if they were to sell.

Latest:

"The Sports Centre staff have been told that “Sports Centre will remain open until Semester Two teaching has finished in the academic year 2015/16.” This means that we should be here until at least April 2016. At the moment we are not sure what the future holds for the staff or the Centre after that!"

So that's that.

Chance that yet another Stafford something, has it's doors closed and locked up!

For the love of God ....STAFFORD!!

Nice site for some houses, that.
Why not see if you can use the localism act and have it registered as a community asset. That way if there was any attempt to sell then the local council / community would be given first refusal and could block any house building.

I understand that the all-weather pitch is part "owned" by the borough council and part "owned" by the University. You will have to ask a Borough Councillor to see what the present situation is. I am worried about all the sports facilities available on the site.

As stated above, the Sports facility at Beaconside are part owned and funded by the University and the BC. I've been informed by the BC that they are keen to retain all of the existing facilities, however who will help fund it when the University decide to move to S-O-T. May be the facilities could be taken over / shared by an existing football. It could be an ideal location for Stafford Rangers FC if they decide to relocate from Marston Road.

It is the all-weather pitch I believe is part funded by the University and the BC. The rest of the facilities belong to the University. However, if another university comes into Stafford perhaps they will keep the facilities.

The all weather pitch is used by Stafford's hockey club, if it's to go- they'll have to find somewhere else to play!

Kingston Hill used to be a golf course. So it's not that hard to imagine all of the land being made into a new housing estate. The field behind is earmarked for housing, so is the field the other side of the Tixall Road.

I dont understand what the issue is. If this is a community asset get it listed as one. Then if it ever comes onto the market the people who say they care get a chance to buy it.

It they don't care and it is only talk then it will close.

People complain about coffee shops, homogeneous high streets and estate agents but don't patronise local businesses.

Plasteted across the local press yesterday 3 universities showing interest although staffs uni not keen for competitors to use site. Bloody cheek, bugger up a town by moving out now trying to stop interest, not even part of the same authority.

I understood that they had stated that they would not dispose of the site to a competitor.

Hopefully, they will be beaten down on this ridiculous stance.

The fact that they are 'unable' to run the site adequately shouldn't prevent anybody else making a better job of it.

Because they know people will happily use the Stafford campus, its just cheaper to keep them all in one place when the local council are doing you a few favours on the old planning side. Stafford would do well if someone else took it over, its always attracted students.

Good point and well made TekM. It's a great campus and
certainly a lot better than good old Poke on Stench.

The idea that they can put a clause on the sale saying no other universities merely proves that the move to Stoke was not for the students. You'd think with tuition fees what they are they could afford both sites, the idea that others want to move here kinda proves it.

Still not forgiven Stoke for bulldozing my favourite pub to out the 6th form college on admittedly, but I hope the move really backfires on them.
