I went about 20 years ago and had a great time, the only bad memory I have is the food which was diabolical. Beyond diabolical. I suspect it's changed now though. I actually live very close to Bowers and regularly walk the dogs through there.

I went about 15 years ago - yep the food was crap (didn't help I was a horribly fussy eater)

Because I refused to eat the food provided I wasn't allowed to spend my pocket money at the tuck shop -

So basically I didn't eat for the whole week - I lost a stone, my mum said I came back looking like a skeleton...

But things like that don't happen nowadays!

I'm sure she'll be fine!

(Sorry that was a really unhelpful comment....)

She's not exactly a fussy eater, she just eats the same as us - but if we have her friends round all they want to eat is 'something & chips' & she's not used to that - she loves her veg & spicy (the spicyer the better) food....she's also got a thing about butter- she's like me, only likes the tiniest amount on bread/toast & she hates Jam - she's convinced that that's what she'll get for dinner....

...& guess what, as part of the schools VE Day celebrations they're getting a picnic of jam sandwiches tomorrow! Trauma....

I'm also a fussy eater, always have been. After a weekend of eating very little (the first night I wanted some of the crumble so forced myself to eat all of my dinner only to be met with a mouth full of pineapple. I nearly cried and went without for the rest of the stay) you can imagine my delight when it was announced that we would be having pizza.

If, at that time, I had known how close to home I was, when faced with the 'pizza' which was in fact more like a tray of pastry with tomatoes (not really in sauce or puree form) and a sprinkling of 'cheese', I think I would have up sticks and naffed off I was that loved off. Unfortunately I was 8 or 9 at the time and leaving wasn't an option.

It's a real shame as it's a great centre, with superb activities and great instructors, we all had a great time, but the food really put me off the place, and even to this day I remember how bad some of it was and how keen the teachers (from our school) were that we ate it. Presumably they all went to the pub for a steak once were were in dorms!

...mad panic today when the child's stuff wouldn't fit into the large holdall we've got....so she's now the proud owner of a bright pink wheeled suitcase....

I love the long kit list which includes, towels, wellies, bedding etc that in the next sentence states that it should all fit into a medium sized bag that the child should be able to carry. How the hell you pack everything on said list into a bag your child can carry is beyond me!

All waved off, now starts the worrying....

I hope she has an absolute blast and it gives her a new found confidence :)

I will always remember collecting my daughter after her January Standon Bowers experience, she literally ran across the school gym and flew in to my arms, and immediately announced very proudly that she had changed her trousers once in the whole week - she thought she'd done very well to remember such an unimportant thing!!!

She'll be back before you know it your little one..........

Did you have any problems getting her out of the house/car?
Who was worrying more this morning? You or your little un?
You're child free till Friday, what do you plan to do with your time?

She woke up saying she had a headache, tummy ache, was hot & felt sick.....& she was roasting! I put it down to nerves & excitement .

She didn't put up any fuss about going but clearly still didn't want to go....so we dropped her off at 9, but went back at 9.30 to wave her off....she ran over & gave us a massive hug & seemed really excited by then - yay!

Totally child free for the week as the other one is off to Budapest tonight... we were planning to do normal people stuff like having a lie-in, going to the pub/cinema, maybe for a meal & decorating small child's room - but the vets bills have put pay to any idea of fun....so we will be staying in staring at 4 walls as usual... husbands poorly too just to add to the fun!
