Support Stafford Hospital

Hi All,

I thought I would start a new thread for the Support Stafford Hospital campaign, as the existing one(s) focus very much on the negative publicity the place has received so far. That's not to say it isn't warranted, and that those threads should be left to die! They are still there, and they are still open, and if you have a comment relevant to them then I would urge you to post it in there, as I would if you had any opinion on anything.

However, I think we all want to see a return to form for our local hospital, so I thought it was important to have a thread dedicated to the Support Stafford Hospital campaign, and the good that it may do. :)

Their website is here: http://supportstaffordhospital.co.uk

And they are on Twitter here: @staffshospital

Thanks,

Admin. :)

can anyone link to all the individual petitions that exist? I've seen 3 so far I think.
All the details are on the official website, http://supportstaffordhospital.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=59&Itemid=96

There is also this petition: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-stafford-hospital.html, but given the publicity the above campaign has managed to garner in such a short space of time (it has just this moment featured on BBC Midlands Today) I would imagine people are better concentrating their efforts on the Support Stafford Hospital website. :)

I personally think the main thing to focus on is getting signatures on the petitions themselves, be it on the Support Stafford Hospital's website / sheets or the #SaveStaffordHospital gopetition website / sheets or the MP's website / sheets. They, as far as I can see, have the exact same wording.

All groups, I hope, will communicate and collate to make the most effective use of the petitions and signatures so that the Trust Board and Government hear the people of Stafford.

And to another extent all groups / campaigns / parties should be spreading the word to everyone they know in Stafford about the temporary closure and explaining how they that will affect them. We can't really solely on the press, facebook, twitter or social networking sites because face to face contact matters.

The best thing they can do with Stafford Hospital and Mid staffs is rename it. Then people will be able to get jobs there without fear of having "Stafford Hospital" on their CV.

As has been stated all the petitions are being collated together. Lefroy, Cheryl Porter and Labour are working together on this petition. Labour are mainly in the street collecting names and Lefroy's petition is on-line. I believe that nearly 9,000/10,000 signatures have been collected.

If this is in the wrong bit I hope Mr/Mrs Admin will move it please. I had cause to go to the DGH this morning with 1 of our patients,we were taken to the a&e dept as soon as we arrived up the hospital, the staff were wonderful I have to say. I can't remember names so praise can't be directed to any individual. But we were kept informed of all that was going to happen etc, even if she was so far out of it she didn't even know the nurses and doctors were there. Eventually they decided to admit her and we were taken to the AMU,where staff again were lovely. Different kettle of fish from when my mum died up there 4years ago,but it looks like they've got their act together and shaped up.

My husband was also admitted over the weekend (was discharged yesterday but had to go back last night), The A&E staff and the staff on AMU are doing a wonderful job....they have run tests on tests and we are currently waiting for a CT scan today. The wards are clean, the staff friendly, helpful and attentive. Luckily both times he had to go to A&E were during the hours they were open, i couldnt imagine what would have happened if it had been when they were closed (for information purposes we have a 5 year daughter with cerebral palsy who has no mobility and limited verbal communication).

I shall be signing the petition when i get back from the hospital this morning.

A few posts under my belt
Cheryl here from Support Stafford Hospital group, it is great to see such positive comments. A local businessman whose life was saved by Stafford Hospital has donated a Christmas Tree to be put in the main foyer at the hospital. It is being decorated with messages from people who wish to show their thanks to the staff at the hospital. We would be gratefull for any messages of support from the community of Stafford. You can either email them to info@supportstaffordhospital.co.uk or pop into the foyer and write onto the cards provided. Thank You

Positive experiences are but one of pure fluke in my experience
Yr right,I've said in another post somewhere on the forum of our experience when mum died,if I had my way i'd never set foot in the dgh ever again, but due to my own health problems and god forbid those of my immediate family I have to. I can't complain about the treatment the lady I took up there yesterday received, normally you say yr from St.Georges and the sheer look of horror that passes over the faces of the staff is hysterical! We seem to get shoved in a corner and i'm sure they hope we'll fade away asap. Be a shame if they close the a&e permanant, the county town without an accident and emergency dept.

Don't understand why there would be a look of horror and hysterical reactions on staff faces when 1/3 of the patients have mental health problems, the other 2/3s will have it by the time they leave the dept ;). There is a psychy liason team based in a&e which the dept staff work closely with on a daily basis. Such comments are ridiculous and inflammatory and pure speculative. How can a dept shy from patients with mental health problems when they deal with them constantly, it's part and parcel of working there and is built into what they do as a matter of routine. Most of the staff can relate to them anyway as most of them are mental health service users, are medicated and probably just returned from long term sickness thus are more than capable of showing empathy and in accordance to their oath or duty of care do not discriminate based on a few loose nuts. Give me strength

I work at St.Georges,on a few occasions I have had cause to accompany patients to the dgh,I'm not exaggerating anything. I said it's hysterical, not the staff become hysterical.

Since moving here I've been in Stafford hospital myself on several occasions, in various different areas. My youngest was born there and my kids have visited A&E (with quite alarming regularity!) over the years and never once have I had cause to complain about the treatment/waiting time etc.

Granted I may just have been lucky, but on the whole - aside from what took me there in the first place - it's all been pretty good in my opinion.
